SRPC's Monthly Newsletter

February 2, 2024

Greetings!

There seems to be two schools of thought on snow: those who grumble and see it as a nuisance and those who enjoy it. I belong to the latter group up until March 30, when I switch alliances and join the grumblers!

February is a busy month for Towns as they prepare for March Town Meeting. It is also when the days are getting longer; when I have exhausted my Netflix queue; and when I start to plan and prepare for my garden.

In this issue you will find information on International Winter Ride Your Bike to Work Day, staff news including our newest staff member, partner spotlight, planning events of interest, public input opportunities, and community happenings.

Enjoy the snow!

Until next month,

Megan Taylor-Fetter

February 9, 2024 is International Winter Ride your Bike to Work Day!

International Winter Bike to Work Day takes place on the 2nd Friday in February each year, all around the globe. It's a great introduction to winter commuting and encourages riders to push their mental and physical limits.

Take the Pledge! Let us know you plan to join by pledging to ride and show that people who ride bikes in New Hampshire have got what it takes! Plus, you'll be entered to win one of five prizes from REI Bedford!

Working from home? That's ok! Go ride around your community- run an errand, visit a friend! Live too far away to bike? Consider combining your trip with public transit, or driving part of the way.

PARTNER SPOTLIGHT

On Tuesday, January 30th, Principal Planner Angie Cleveland and Regional Planner Autumn Scott met with Newmarket staff Bart McDonough (Director of Planning & Community Development) and Lyndsay Butler (Town Engineer), and professionals from PLAN NH, Tiffany Tononi McNamara, Alissa Del Tufo, and Brian Pratt to begin the planning process for an upcoming design charette on October 18 and 19, 2024. The design charette is part of a larger effort between project partners to advance a comprehensive update to Newmarket’s Master Plan, and will focus on the downtown riverfront area (shown in the locus map) as part of a new Downtown Riverfront Community Design chapter. The chapter will incorporate a comprehensive land use and vision to improve and preserve areas of the downtown riverfront, in pursuit of the enhancement of riverfront access for all abilities and socio-economic demographics and expansion of low impact uses that promote social connectivity, recreational opportunities, and better public health outcomes.

Stay tuned for additional details and reach out to Regional Planner Autumn Scott at ascott@strafford.org with any questions relating to the chapter or charrette process.
