After demolition of the existing wall along the southbound SR-55 MacArthur Boulevard on-ramp, an additional overnight concrete pour is planned for as early as 11:59 p.m., Monday, Aug. 19 to 5 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 20. This work requires closure of the MacArthur Boulevard straight on-ramp, as well as two outside lanes on southbound SR-55. Click here to view the detour map. 

Contractors are making steady progress as they continue to construct the footing, providing a solid foundation for the new wall. The newly designed wall will be approximately 1,440' long with a height ranging from 6' to 18'.

Look for a new construction term each week and see how it ties into the SR-55 Improvement Project! This week, we’re defining Average Daily Traffic (ADT). ADT is the total traffic volume during a given time period divided by the number of days in that time period, expressed in vehicles per day.

More than 260,000 vehicles use the SR-55 freeway between the I-405 and I-5 every day, and that number is expected to grow to nearly 275,000 vehicles by 2040. To address this demand, the project will add one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction, as well as merge lanes between several interchanges.

OCTA, in cooperation with Caltrans, is improving 4 miles of SR-55 between I-405 and I-5. The project will improve traffic flow and reduce travel time by adding one regular lane and one carpool lane in each direction. Also, the project will add merge lanes between several interchanges and stripe carpool lanes for continuous access, augmenting safety on the freeway by making merging easier. These enhancements are expected to create a better, smoother driving experience for motorists.
