Coastal Storm Damage Reduction &
Beach Replenishment Project Update
| |
Time for a sand replenishment project update! Even with the recent storms, the project is going well and remains on schedule. Heavy equipment will be delivered this Monday, February 12th, which will require the temporary closure of the Fletcher Cove parking lot for public parking in the morning until 1:00pm.
In addition, the work on the north side of Fletcher Cove is expected to be completed this weekend and operations will switch over to south of Fletcher Cove. This will result in the beaches south of Fletcher Cove being closed as early as Monday morning. Once the switch is made, the beaches north of Fletcher Cove will be opened to the public. The work on the south side will take approximately 4-6 weeks. Although the vehicular ramp at Fletcher Cove will stay closed, the pedestrian access on the ramp and the beaches north of the Cove will be open to the public.
One important note, the project will not be “complete” until the contractor places 700,000 cubic yards of sand on the beach at the conclusion of the project. Meaning, any sand lost as a result of the recent storms, or any additional storms, will be replaced by the contractor before the project is deemed complete. We have received some questions from the public regarding this and just wanted to clarify that any sand lost during these storms will not affect the final total cubic yards.
Please note that the construction schedule is subject to change, and we appreciate the public's patience during this crucial project.

Save Water & Save Money with Rain Barrels
|
Save water and money by harnessing the power of rain barrels to collect and conserve rainwater for future use. With just one inch of rain, you can harvest up to 600 gallons of water per 1,000 sq. ft. of average roof space! Rain is too valuable to waste. By implementing rain barrels in your home, you can efficiently gather rainwater to help keep your garden lush and healthy, while also saving money and playing a vital role in protecting beaches and waterways. Additionally, Solana Beach residents can take advantage of the SoCal Water$mart rebate program, which offers rebates for rain barrel use.

Random Acts of Kindness Day
|
The City is proud to celebrate Random Acts of Kindness Day on Saturday, February 17th. On this day we celebrate, honor and encourage random acts of kindness in our community. Simple acts of kindness are contagious, and the collective power of kindness has the ability to change our attitudes towards one another and our sense of well being. The positive effects of kindness are experienced in the brain of everyone who witnesses the act, improving their mood and making them significantly more likely to “pay it forward.” This means one good deed in a crowded area can create a domino effect and improve the day of dozens of people!
