September Monthly Message

from Your RBUSD Superintendent

September 2023

Dear RBUSD Students & Families,

Welcome to the 2023-24 school year!

Not to start by bragging, but… you won’t be surprised to learn the latest Niche ratings ranked RBUSD #12 in California, #83 of 10,751 school districts in America, and #1 school district for athletes, with more high scores for diversity and best places to teach. We are incredibly proud of our teachers, support staff, students, and families who have helped us achieve our current success and plan for the future with our forward-thinking strategic plan.

Looking Ahead: Strategic Plan

When going on a road trip, you need a map. There’s always more to see and do than time allows, so planning how you’ll spend your time and resources is essential. The 2023-24 RBUSD journey is no different. This is why, with your input, a Board workshop, over 4,000 survey responses last spring, two community workshops, a review of data, and additional contributions from our certificated association and Leadership Team, we’re proud to present a three-year Strategic Plan outlining the goals, objectives, and expected outcomes for RBUSD.

The five key goals of the Strategic Plan are:

  • 1. Increase academic achievement for all students
  • 2. Improve student resilience through social and emotional learning
  • 3. Increase knowledge and opportunities for student post-secondary goals and current and future workforce needs
  • 4. Build the capacity of district personnel
  • 5. Upgrade and maintain facilities and IT infrastructure and security

RBUSD is presented with many new ideas and programs, some of which fit into our plan and some that do not. The Strategic Plan, presented to the Board at the September 12 meeting, guides the district’s focus, which drives program and budget decisions. You can watch it HERE or read the Strategic Plan on the RBUSD website under Parent/Student at www.rbusd.org once adopted by the Board at their meeting on September 26.

Let’s Talk: Communication Guidelines

Lastly, for us all to succeed, communication is key. RBUSD is committed to timely and transparent communication. We’re invested in student self advocacy, so parents and guardians, when appropriate, please encourage your student to advocate for themselves first by speaking to their teacher, counselor, or administrator. If you feel you’d like to be more involved, please review the RBUSD Communications Guidelines document linked HERE for details on the best way to proceed.

We appreciate your partnership as we begin this wonderful school year journey!

Your Superintendent,

Nikki Wesley, Ed.D.
