Remembrance Weekend Art Project

This year for the Tom Coughlin Jay Fund Remembrance weekend, AWAHIH painted papier-mâché face masks with families in honor of their child(ren) they have lost to childhood cancer. The project followed the weekend's theme of "masking grief". Participants enjoyed the chance to express their emotions through art and to honor their loved ones in a meaningful way.

2022 Spring UNF Interns

In the spring semester of 2022, our AWAHIH team was joined by two University of North Florida interns, (left to right) Elysa Adams and Jaycee Guttormson. They worked alongside our Artists-in-Residence providing personalized fine art experiences for WCH patients and their families.

Art with a Heart wins Community Impact Award

AWAHIH was awarded with the Community Impact Award by First Coast Cultural Center (FCCC)! Artist-in-Residence Jill attended FCCC's third annual "Beaches, A Celebration of the Arts" event where she accepted the award on AWAHIH's behalf.

Community Art Project

Artist-in-Residence Dylan created a painting called Tree of Hope for Baptist Medical Center Beaches. Patients, their families, and medical staff affected by the pandemic wrote personalized messages and quotes on butterflies and added them to the tree. It is helping to provide a sense of hope, community, and healing.

WCH Media Center Art Shows

AWAHIH continues to livestream art sessions in the WCH media center. In July, AWAHIH had the honor of having Dr. Asma Salahuddin participate in the show. Patients enjoyed seeing the familiar face of one of their favorite doctors as they followed along with the "Cool Cactus" art project in their rooms.

Patient Art Exhibition Installations

AWAHIH's 2018 and 2019 patient art exhibitions both found new homes. A World of Their Own, 2018, was permanently installed in WCH and ANIMAL-Gamation, 2019, at Nemours Children's Health.

Last year's exhibition, "Behind the Mask" was displayed at Word Revolt Art Gallery before heading to Jacksonville International Airport October 2022 until March 2023.
