Camp TLC serves campers age 9-16 with Spina Bifida and congenital neural tube defects. The Spina Bifida Association of North Texas provides this week long experience in June with medical support from Texas Scottish Rite Hospital, Children’s Medical Center Dallas, and Cook Children’s Hospital in Fort Worth.

Do you ever wonder exactly how we use our funding? This is one of our favorite ways!! Camp TLC just finished and NAF was a proud partner of this wonderful camp. Our contribution this year was $5,212 and we provided these things for 150 in-person campers:

  • water bottles
  • sun hats
  • cooling scarfs
  • thermometers
  • speakers for cabins
  • face masks

We are now set to provide necessities to those kids who were unable to make it to in-person camp and will be doing virtual camp. There should be about 60 children doing the virtual camp.

Thank you for your support of NAF!! What a team!!
Airline Passengers With

In July 2022, the US Department of Transportation has issued a Bill of Rights for airline passengers with disabilities. This Bill of Rights describes the fundamental rights of air travelers with disabilities under the Air Carrier Access Act and its implementing regulation, 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 382. For more information, click HERE.
Six Things Wheelchair Users
Should Know About Autonomous Vehicles

In cities across the United States, autonomous vehicles aren’t a scene from a far-fetched sci-fi movie. They’re a reality.

It’s an understatement that autonomous vehicles (AV), or self-driving vehicles, could change the lives of thousands of people with disabilities. Lack of access to accessible transportation limits opportunities for work, social activities and medical appointments for many wheelchair users.

Here are six key points you need to know about the autonomous vehicle revolution:

  1. AVs will first drive people through ride-hailing services
  2. Current AV designs are hit and miss for wheelchair access
  3. AVs are sparking a quest for a universal wheelchair-securement system
  4. Accessible infrastructure is as important as the vehicles
  5. Other services have to be accessible too
  6. We need sustained advocacy to ensure AVs work for us

HOT HATCH CHILE ROLL, WALK & RUN
PARTNERS & SPONSORS!
Thank you everyone for coming out to support NAF at this annual run! Please join us thanking our partners and sponsors for this successful run.
Congratulations, Addie and Family!
Addie is six years old. She and her family ran the Hot hatch last year, and Addie drove her powerchair. This May, she walked in her walker at the Fiesta de Mayo, and she trained to cycle the 1 mile for the Hot Hatch! At the awards ceremony, NAF assisted her parents "reveal" that she was granted through Kidd’s Kids to go to Disney World. We were honored to celebrate Addie and her family.
Introductions
Meet Justin...

Justin was involved in a motor vehicle accident in February of this year and sustained a C4 traumatic spinal cord injury. Justin needed a lot of equipment to go home and NAF was asked to help provide those. The chair Justin is sitting in, a lift and other equipment was provided by NAF. We are so happy we could help him during this time. The balloons in the background were from his "coming home" party!!
Justin asked us to tell all our donors and sponsors that he is so grateful for our assistance.
We can't do what we do without all of our supporters. Thanks everyone!

Meet Javier...

Javier, age 19, sustained a spinal cord injury due to a gun shot wound. His case manager reached out to NAF to provide a power wheelchair and medical supplies. NAF was honored to provide the necessary monthly medical supplies and a power wheelchair.
Meet Heidi...

Heidi, age 45, was injured on a trampoline and is now living with a C5 spinal cord injury. Heidi's insurance is paying for some medical equipment for her but they will not pay for bathroom equipment as they deem it "unnecessary". Heidi's case manager reached out to NAF to get he the items she needed to be self-sufficient and we provided them before she was discharged from rehab.
Bi-Pap $2,500
Meet Evelyn...
Evelyn, age 14, has a genetic disorder that is causing a degenerative decline in muscle strength. Her physician said she needed a Bi-Pap machine for her health and when her family couldn't afford to purchase it, NAF happily stepped in to assist.

We Need Your Help
Donate ~ Sponsor ~ Volunteer
Your $25 donation will help provide clean catheters to a paralyzed child for one month when their insurance won't cover the expense.

Your $100 donation will help build a wheelchair ramp so we can get our clients out of rehab and through their front door at home.

Your $200 donation will help widen the doorways in their homes so their wheelchair can fit through the bathroom door. Insurance doesn't covers home modifications.

Your $500 donation will help provide life-changing medical equipment: wheelchairs and specialized shower chairs, etc. Most insurance only covers a small part of wheelchairs, if any, and no "bathing aids" are covered.
