Briar Chapel Star Program!

Do you know someone that cuts their neighbors lawn just because?

Or someone that rolls someone trash out? Or that watched your children because you had something to do? Or maybe just someone that you love the way they take care of their lawn? Or maybe their beautiful garden? Or Maybe................

Please help us find them! We want to help them SHINE!

Nominate a Briar Chapel Star Here!

Our Star this week is Richard Daugherty!

Her neighbors have this to say about him: I can’t believe how I lucked out getting Dick for a neighbor. While he helps and entertains me, he’s a fabulous neighbor to others, too. Dick trained one neighbor’s dog and has taken her on daily walks for YEARS. He helps us with a variety of issues, from landscaping/yard care to fixing an errant security system at night, and from moving boxes to delivering bakery treats — and so much more. Dick’s well traveled and has many entertaining stories of work, teaching, cycling, running and family. He’s unbelievably generous and knows how to cheer up folks when he instinctively knows it’s needed.

Professor John Canzanella will lead this course.

This course will explore the history of slavery, which began before the Pilgrims landed at Plymouth Rock. It will continue through emancipation, segregation, and two aspects of the Civil Rights Movement in the twentieth century: the legal challenge of Thurgood Marshall, and the moral challenge of Martin Luther King Jr. Using three books, Before the Mayflower, Simple Justice, and Parting the Waters, students will be assigned readings and view the movie based on Simple Justice.

This will start on Monday, October 17th at 7pm in the Social Room and will continue for 8 weeks, skipping Halloween night.
