Free Online Module: Adventures in Reading Comprehension


This online module can be taken at any time and is a great teacher team activity! It includes easy-to-use instructional strategies and lists of free technologies that you can start using in your classroom or at home.

Inclusion Ideas for Reading Sorting Activities


When students are using communication devices, consider these options for device overlays:

  • The device has an overlay that the student uses to say the word and indicate which header word (container) it goes with when shown a card.
  • The device has an overlay that the student uses to say the target long/short vowel sound and indicates which header word (container) it goes with when shown a card.
  • The device has an overlay that the student uses to indicate the header word (container) it goes with when shown a card.

Word maps support understanding and higher-order thinking. They can help make connections between words, concepts, and prior knowledge.


Use word maps:

  • Before, during, and after reading, listening, speaking, and writing activities.
  • Preparing for and during presentations, data chats, and progress monitoring.


MindMeister is a free and pay online mind mapping tool that students can use to create word maps. The free version includes up to 3 mind maps that can be reused for different activities.

Assistive Technology Myths & Truths


A free interactive guide to exploring various myths regarding assistive technology in the areas of assessment, reading, MTSS, dependency, cheating, and more. This is a great activity for prompting discussion in team meetings.
