Student Support Initiative

West Chicago Community High School is pleased to announce the implementation of a new program this August, the “Student Support Initiative” (SSI). Thanks to the support of the District 94 School Board and the West Chicago Community High School Teachers’ Association, all students will participate in SSI as part of their weekly class schedule this year.

What is the Student Support Initiative?
SSI is a thirty minute period that students will attend on Tuesdays through Fridays in addition to their classes. This period is called “Den Time” since it is designed to create a sense of community.
Two days a week, students will participate in guided lessons created by District 94 teachers. These lessons focus on social-emotional learning (SEL) topics such as self-awareness, self-management, responsible decision making, social awareness, and relationship skills based on the work of the Collaborative for Academic Social, and Emotional Learning or CASEL.
New Daily Class Schedule

Due to the addition of the Student Support Initiative, the Daily Class Schedule has been revised to allow for "Den Time". Class periods will run forty-six minutes. Den Time is scheduled between 3rd and 4th period from 10:28 a.m. to 10:58 a.m. For detailed information on the Student Support Initiative with lessons during Den Time, visit www.d94.org/SSI.

Another change to the Daily Class Schedule includes the Late Start Monday schedule. Late Start Mondays are all Mondays in the school year with the exception of holidays that fall on Mondays, the first day of school on August 15, and September 19, November 28, and April 24.

Finally the Assembly Schedule and Half Day Schedule are included as well for easy reference.

Wego Drama Presents Marvel Spotlight: Hammered! A Thor and Loki Play

Wego Drama at Community High School begins their 2022-2023 Season with the all age’s production of Marvel Spotlight: Hammered: A Thor and Loki Play. Based on the characters created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby, this play is a modern riff on the characters created sixty years ago. This fun play focuses on the Norse Gods as teenagers as they face the trials of school, family, and friendship.  It is the perfect kick-off to the Wego Drama season theme of “Discover Who You Are.” Thor needs to discover what is important to him as he prepares to be a future king.
Junior Alex Bradley, who plays Thor states, “It is great to give my own take on this classic character.”
