Parents! Please be patient and follow our safety traffic rules. Students can be dropped off between 8:45 and 9:15 in the morning and can be picked up between 4:04 and 4:30 pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays; or between 3:00 and 3:30pm on Wednesdays.

Please remember that all parents picking up their students must drive through the carline. Also, only a right turn is allowed when you exit the school to Town Loop Blvd. Thank you for keeping everyone safe.

We will have our first SAC meeting for the year on Monday, 8/12, at 5:00 pm in the Media Center. Our next combined SAC and MPLC (Multilingual Parent Leadership Council) meeting is scheduled for Monday, 9/9, at 5:00 pm in the Media Center. Don't miss out on very important information. Join us!

I am very excited to share with you that we are continuing our Houses System which is specifically designed to promote cultural and social awareness as well as increase the students' engagement and sense of belonging. Wednesday, August 14th is our First HOUSE SPIRIT DAY! Students wear their house color to earn a HERO point for school spirit!

We have included in this edition essential beginning of the school year parent information in order to make it easy for you to access through one document. I ask that you read every section in its entirety and use the links provided below to complete the annually required forms.

Cell Phone Policy

OCPS requires that wireless communications device(s)* be silenced and put away (in a backpack or purse) during the school day while on campus, including lunchtime and transitioning between classes.

* Wireless communication devices include but are not limited to, cell phones and/or auxiliary/ancillary devices such as watches and ear buds. (Watches may be used as a watch, but not as a communication device.)

The following actions will be taken if a student violates OCPS’s cell phone policy:

• Confiscation (Item returned at the end of the day)

• Detention

• Positive Alternative to School

• Suspension (PASS)

• Out-of-School Suspension (OSS)

Pursuant to the Technology in K-12 Public Schools law that took effect on July 1, 2023 and Section 1006.07, Florida Statutes.

At no time shall OCPS be responsible for theft, loss or damage of cell phones or other electronic devices brought onto district property.

Hunter’s Creek Middle School Parents:

Please help us keep a safe and orderly learning environment. Following the school/county/state cell phone policy, students must have their cell phones turned off and put away in their book bags while at school. If students need to communicate with their parents during the school day, they are allowed to use the front office phone. Teachers and administrators will be confiscating the cell phones of students who break the rules. Confiscated student cell phones will not be given back to students. Parents or guardians must pick them up from the school's front office.

🚨 Important Digital Plan for Device and Accessory Incident Fees! 🚨

OCPS is pleased to provide digital devices* to all our students. Exposing our youth to digital learning is critical to preparing them for future success, and the district is recognized as a national leader due to the incredible efforts of our teachers and administrators. OCPS Code of Student Conduct outlines that students must not damage* school property. District-issued devices are the property of the School Board of Orange County and its taxpayers.

* Digital Devices - A student must be enrolled in at least one on-campus course to receive a digital device.

* Damage - Any material change, through negligence, accident, or intent, that prohibits full functionality, or cosmetic changes in the appearance, of a device.

Fee Structure – CHANGES!!!!

Device Fees

OCPS is pleased to offer devices to all students enrolled in at least one core on-campus course. The OCPS Code of Student Conduct states that students must not willingly or maliciously damage Board property. District issued devices are the property of the School Board of Orange County and its taxpayers.

As opposed to previous years, device fees will not be assessed based on a standard tiered incident fee structure. Instead, students will receive disciplinary consequences based on the OCPS Code of Student Conduct offense level.

● Level II Offense: device damage, or willful or malicious destruction if a device its components valued at less than $100 in repair or replacement costs

● Level III (Over $100): device damage, or willful or malicious destruction of a device or its components valued at more than $100 in repair or replacement costs.

The OCPS Code of Student Conduct (p.5) also states that the parent or guardian of a student may also have “accountability for loss or damage to OCPS property” As such, in addition to disciplinary consequences, the School-Based Digital Learning team may choose to assess a Device Incident Fee based on the four-year depreciation schedule on the device (each year ends June 30). The schedule below details the depreciation schedule.

Years from Purchase:

  • Year 1: Cost of repair or replacement
  • Year 2: $400.00
  • Year 3: $250.00
  • Year 4: $100.00

The device begins depreciating once it's in use. Devices depreciate along a normal schedule, depending upon the features of the device, the expected life cycle, and normal wear and tear. Normal wear and tear related to the full replacement value - hence the new depreciation schedule above for instances that rise to a third incident. These are the new replacement values based on depreciation.

Accessory Fees

Accessory Fees will be charged based on the structure below. The charger and protective cases for devices are considered accessories, along with any other item not core to the device but necessary for its full functionality and protection. When an accessory is damaged, the student is responsible for the actual cost up to a maximum of $20 for the first incident and the full cost of replacement for subsequent incidents.

Student/Parent/Guardian/Responsibility

  • 1st Incident: Up to $20
  • 2nd Incident: Cost of repair or replacement

Fee Communication

The updated Digital Device Accessory Assessment Form is used to communicate any fees assessed with parents/legal guardians.

Parents and Guardians will be notified automatically via the email associated with their Parent Portal account if their student has been assessed a device or accessory fee.

Fee Disputes

Parents/legal guardians may dispute a fee by contacting the school principal in writing. Fee disputes not resolved at the school level shall be addressed to the area superintendent.

Fee Payment Deadlines

Fees must be paid by the end of each school year. Schools may use other means to ensure collection besides academic or school-wide events like graduation and prom. The use of payment plans, when necessary, is encouraged.

Device Care and Safety Videos

Students are required to watch the device care and safety video that applies to them as part of the device checkout process or in the classroom/Media Center. Videos can be accessed using the links below:

K-1 Device Care

2-5 Device Care

Secondary Device Care

Stickers on Student Devices or Cases

Students may not place stickers on their devices or device cases.

Paying Fees

All fees are due at the time they are assessed. Fees can be paid via credit card (SchoolPay). SchoolPay is currently the only board-approved credit card payment processor for the district. All financial obligations should be settled within the school year when the fee is assessed.

Parents/Guardians/Students are responsible for device and peripheral damages that occur to OCPS property. Please sign that you understand the information outlined above.

Join Our School Advisory Council

The first School Advisory Committee meeting is Monday, August 12th, and we would love it if you were there! Parents/Guardians AND students are all invited to attend and get extra information about HCMS and be part of decision making opportunities.

Message from OCPS:

Each Orange County public school invites parents to get involved. One of the ways parents can get involved is through the School Advisory Council (SAC). This council is a group that brings representatives of stakeholders together to assist the school principal with developing and evaluating a school improvement plan. Each school must have a SAC that is ethnically, racially and economically representative of its community. Members of the SAC are selected according to procedures established by the school and school board in compliance with the requirements of state statutes.

Each SAC is composed of the principal and representatives of teachers, education support employees, parents, community members and students. High schools and technical centers must have students as part of their SAC membership. Student membership on middle and elementary school SACs is optional. Teachers, education support employees, students and parents are elected to the SAC by their peer groups. Community members are appointed by the principal.

Join PTSA

The HCMS PTSA is the best–they are so supportive of our school and faculty/staff and can only do what they do with the help of membership, so let’s get 100% PTSA membership this year! Visit https://hunterscreekms.givebacks.com/store to join AND order the new Eagles Vibe shirt!
