TIP FROM NIC
GET YOUR COVID BOOSTER
As we all move inside with the cooler weather and new variants take hold, the number of Covid cases in the area is rising. If you have not already done so, schedule your Covid booster as soon as possible. (If you have recently had Covid, the CDC recommends waiting 3 months from the last date you tested positive to receive the booster.) The Town of New Canaan is holding vaccination clinics at Irwin House every Thursday afternoon. To sign up, go to the Health Dept. website and follow the prompts or call the Health Dept. at 203-594-3037. Boosters are also available through most pharmacies as well. The BA 4 and BA 5 variants are the most common, although experts are watching several new variants which have arisen. Even if the booster does not provide 100% effectiveness at protecting you from catching Covid, it does confer protection from serious illness. The most common symptoms reported with this round of the virus include runny nose, headache, sneezing, sore throat, fatigue, and persistent cough. In this case, persistent means coughing many times a day, for half a day or more. If you have any of these symptoms – which can easily be confused with
the common cold or flu - please wear a mask when out in public and GET TESTED for both Covid (preferably a PCR test) and flu.

IF YOU TEST POSITIVE FOR COVID
Stay home for at least 5 days and isolate from others in your home. If you have symptoms and have moderate illness – you experienced shortness of breath or had difficulty breathing – you need to isolate through day 10. Regardless of when you end isolation, until at least day 11: avoid being around people who are more likely to get very sick from COVID-19, wear a high-quality mask when indoors around others at home and in public, and do not go places where you are unable to wear a mask. If you have 2 sequential negative antigen tests – preferably PCR tests – you may remove your mask sooner than day 10.
