Inaugural Hilltopper Excellence Awards recognize 9 WKU alumni & benefactors For more than 30 years, the Hall of Distinguished Alumni induction ceremony has been a highlight of WKU’s Homecoming weekend. The inaugural Hilltopper Excellence Awards celebration, which was held on Nov. 9, built upon this legacy and offered the opportunity to recognize nine esteemed alumni and dedicated benefactors of WKU. Alumni achievement recipients were Dr. Charles Coomer and Dr. David D. Lee; distinguished service award recipients were Paul J. Just and Romanza O. Johnson; Philanthropist of the Year was Richard J. Frockt; and Hall of Distinguished Alumni inductees were the late Admiral Claude Charles Bloch, the late Justice Charles H. Reynolds, Renee Shaw and Dr. Amir Zaheri. The event was sponsored by Franklin Bank & Trust and kicked off the “Big Red, White and Blue” Homecoming festivities. Spotlight: Nicholas Barth Nicholas Barth serves as a WKU Global advisor, specifically working with students exploring abroad programs in Europe, Oceania, Semester at Sea, and International Student Teaching. Barth was originally drawn to study abroad in high school, when he was given the opportunity to spend a fully funded year in Germany his senior year. Learn More
