Employee Assistance Program Resources

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer in women. Individuals can show their support and give honor to breast cancer survivors and those who have lost their battle by wearing pink ribbons and participating in community events.

UNLV’s Employee Assistance Program partner ComPsych provides information on the different types of breast cancer, screenings, treatment, and prevention. Visit ComPsych’s website and register using the organization's Web ID: UNLVEAP to get access to these resources.

EAP resources are available to all UNLV employees and eligible dependents.

World Mental Health Day

October 10 is observed as World Mental Health Day to raise global awareness of mental health. The main components of mental health are emotional, psychological, and social well-being. A significant change in your life can affect one or more of those areas. That’s why it’s important to take a break and assess your mental health regularly. ComPsych offers valuable resources on mental health and self-assurance.

Kids and the Internet: Becoming a Cyber-Savvy Parent

This month's Employee Assistance Program webinar will provide information to help parents learn about the benefits and risks of computers and the internet. The webinar will take place on Wednesday, October 12 at 12 p.m. Register via GoToWebinar.

Human Resources Professional Development Opportunities

Human Resources is offering a series of professional development seminars this fall:

  • Ombuds: Working Better Together Series
  • E-Leadership: The Agile Leader Series
  • Upskill with UNLV Leaders

Sessions are free and open to all UNLV employees. Visit REBELearn’s announcements section for full schedules and registration information.

Leading and Influencing Change from the Middle: Change Management for Mid-level Leaders

All Business Affairs faculty and staff have access to online training, tools, and resources for professional, leadership, and personal development through Academic Impressions

Academic Impressions offers an impressive on-demand library and virtual, live opportunities such as the free Leading and Influencing Change from the Middle: Change Management for Mid-level Leaders webinar on Thursday, October 13.

The webinar will help you address challenges, opportunities, and actions needed for implementing a change initiative from a mid-level leadership role. To sign-up for the upcoming webinar, register online using your ACE ID login.

Upgrading Your Digital Literacy

Google has announced new shortcuts that will greatly improve glanceability by enabling audible Calendar details on demand instead of requiring the user to navigate through information. Users of screen readers can now type a keyboard shortcut (ALT + number,  1 - 7) that verbalizes the content of an event, such as the title, date and time, guest list, and much more. For the full update and tutorial, visit the Google Workspaces Blog.

Spotlight on Service

“I can't thank the HVAC team enough for all the work they did to repair the A/C in the lobby of the Artemus W. Ham Concert Hall! Having an issue of that magnitude happening at a time when we are slammed with events was stressful. Thanks again for the quick response and excellent service.” - UNLV Performing Arts Center

Congratulations Nathan Frieders

Congratulations to Nathan Frieders, one of Nevada’s newest Certified Public Accountants (CPA)! To be a CPA takes the equivalent of a master’s degree in education, 2-4 years of professional experience, and approximately a year and a half of testing. The certification includes a four-part test that must be passed within an 18-month timeframe. Each test has a four-hour time limit and contains multiple-choice and simulation questions.

The Nevada Society of Certified Public Accountants (NVCPA) Society hosted a dinner to honor all new CPAs on September 21 at the Golden Nugget and Nathan was among the honorees. The NVCPA is a professional organization of CPAs that support the profession through continuing education and advocacy. Every year, they put together a dinner for all recently approved CPAs to attend as a celebration of their accomplishment. Way to go, Nathan!
