Rabbi Silvestri's Round Up
|
“Music doesn’t get in. Music is already in. Music simply uncovers what is there, makes you feel emotions that you didn’t necessarily know that you had inside you, and runs around waking them all up.” Matt Haig, author of How to Stop Time
In פרשת האזינו, Parashat Ha’azinu, Moshe relays over his literal swan song.

Alum Visit
RMBA alum Tali Miller (Class of 2019) talked to Mr. Cell's 11th–12th grade AP Psychology class about her experience as a psychology major at Stern College for Women. She outlined different areas within psychology that one can study, and the jobs linked to those tracks. She expressed her excitement in learning psychology, and spoke about the intriguing questions raised by her research project on the psychology of cults. Our students were very interested in all of this, and asked Tali many thoughtful questions.

Language Arts
Mr. Simon’s Third Grade class has been busy even though it was a short week. The students reviewed pronouns, nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs in a massive review session! It was a tremendously good time for all as they showed off their expertise with all things grammar. Additionally, they wrote essays based on the prompt, “What Yom Kippur Means to Me”. They used the essays to identify pronouns, nouns, adjectives, adverbs and verbs. The best part of the essay was when the class shared their essays with each other!

Students in Morah Yocheved's First Grade Judaic Studies class had fun moving from their desks to the colorful Aleph Bet rug for a fun lesson. Using salt letters and aleph bet bean bags they had a great time reviewing the Hebrew letters. Students had to close their eyes and guess the letter on the plate from a salt letter.

Yom Kippur Preparations
Despite a short school day on Erev Yom Kippur it was packed with meaning and inspiration! Our Lower School students started with Davening and Kapparot (atonement ritual) using money, where each student got to choose a tzedaka to donate the money to. They also rotated between various activities, learned the tefillah (prayer) Yodati through song, and culminated the day with a "mareh Kohen", (poem found in the Yom Kippur Mussaf Amidah) activity all together. Upper School students had the opportunity to hear from Dr. Alan Kellerman who shared a story and helped prepare the students for Yom Kippur. This was followed by a Kumzitz (musical gathering) in the Magical Forest where Aviva Friedmann and Rabbi Johnny Ouzzan shared personal stories that highlighted their Jewish pride.
