CARVER VOICES - NOVEMBER

GRACIOUSLY SUPPORTED BY THE STEVEN & ALEXANDRA COHEN FOUNDATION

At this year’s Carver Center Thanksgiving Distribution, the warmth of generosity enveloped the Port Chester community. Thanks to the Steven & Alexandra Cohen Foundation, we were able to provide holiday food to hundreds of families, ensuring their holiday celebrations were filled with abundance and joy. Thank you, for helping us create a Thanksgiving filled with warmth and a true spirit of community. @CohenGive #buildingbrighterfutures

STRIVING FOR EXCELLENCE

This year's Freedom Fund Luncheon, hosted by the Port Chester/Rye Branch of the NAACP, honored Carver Center's Director of School-Age Programs, Fallen Jean-Baptiste, with the Freedom Educator Award, and Carver Center Teen, Ashley Monroy, recipient of the Future Freedom History Maker Award. Well deserved honors for both!

A TASTE OF COLLEGE LIFE

Teens that are registered in our Teen Center had the opportunity to visit the University of Connecticut - Storrs where they attended an information session and had lunch in one of the college dining halls.

Carver's Teen Center programming provides these new opportunities for our teens all year long.

LET'S TALK, SHALL WE?

Carver Center has been offering Conversational English-speaking classes to our community members. Volunteers from Congregation KTI have been providing the educational experience for the adults who are attending the classes. Becoming fluent in English provides a gateway to a brighter future.

READING IS FUNDAMENTAL

Thanks to our great partnership with the Rye Country Day School’s Parent Public Purpose Committee (led by Meghan Charles, Alex Hagens, and Sterling Thomas), children in our After School program and members of our Teen Center, will be receiving a wide variety of educational books that were donated from their annual book drive.

A total of 1,815 books were collected!

MAKING A POSITIVE CHANGE

Maisie Overbay – daughter of Carver Center board member and vice president, John Overbay – volunteers in our pre-school and upper-level aquatics program on Saturday mornings where she teaches proper floating, kicking, and diving skills.  If that isn’t enough, she organized a “Swim Gear” Drive for the students in our aquatics program as part of her bat mitzvah project. In September, she dropped off over 200 goggles and swim caps which will be given to families at our Thanksgiving Distribution. Thanks, Maisie, for giving back to Carver!

EVERY CHILD DESERVES A WINTER COAT

We are grateful for our partnership with our dedicated community partner, Children's Hope Chest. Through their yearly coat drive, we distributed 200 coats to children in our community.

Families were treated to a delicious array of holiday desserts and the children had the opportunity to participate in many fun activities; all coordinated by an enthusiastic and caring group of volunteers.

Thank you, again, for keeping our local children warm this winter.

WE ARE GRATEFUL FOR YOU!

Without the support and commitment of our volunteers, we couldn't do our important work throughout the year.

Your support is helping us change lives; from helping in our Carver Market each week to supporting our youth and adult programming. Your unwavering dedication and hard work is appreciated.

Thank you from all of us at the Carver Center.
