Add to the Gratitude Tree

Stop by the TCPG welcome table at student-led conferences to show some love for our school and the incredible teachers and staff that make our school special.

  1. Grab a green leaf (or two or three).
  2. Share your gratitude through a note written on a leaf for a person or our school.
  3. Add your leaf to the tree trunk affixed to the wall (like the example below).

Together, let’s bring this tree to life, bursting with our love and gratitude.

Expedition Corner: The Sacred Meaning of the Western Red Cedar to Native Tribes

This week The Seattle Times explores the importance of the cedar to the Muckleshoot and Snoqualmie Tribes through a short video entitled “Why cedar is sacred to Pacific Northwest tribes.”

Click to watch Gail White Eagle of the Muckleshoot Indian Tribe harvest and process the cedar for many purposes. She explains, “I talk about how important the cedar tree was. Not only did the tree provide housing for us, it provided transportation, paddles, clothing, our hats, our baskets.”

Another elder shares, “Cedar is about as central a resource to our life as anything that you could ever potentially talk about. They carry teachings that are just as profound as the ones that you’ll find in any great library.”
