August E-Tip

Beating the Heat

It’s been a hot summer, and unfortunately our go-to of air conditioning accounts for 7% of global electricity and upwards of 4% of all carbon emissions (twice as much as the entire aviation industry). How can you reduce your need for A/C?

  • Turn off the A/C and open all your windows after the sun goes down
  • Keep air moving with fans & install ceiling fans to push air down
  • Close all the windows and pull the shades on sunny windows
  • Cook outdoors when possible
  • Change incandescent lights to LED bulbs
  • Use A/C only at strategic times of the day and try to set your thermostat higher than normal. A two-degree increase in your A/C temperature settings can reduce your energy consumption by 10%.

Upcoming Events & Parish Life

New Emmaus Road Ministry

Faith-based Suicide Support

Learn More on August 25

Emmaus Road is a new ministry at St. Michael’s that will be open to the entire community of Colorado Springs. It is a faith-based grief support group for those who have been impacted by suicide loss, initiated and facilitated by other survivors of this unique loss. The group will meet on the second and fourth Saturdays of the month, beginning September 14, from 9:30-11:00 AM at the church. Anyone who has lost loved ones to suicide or is interested in learning more about this ministry is invited to gather in the downstairs conference room on Sunday, August 25 from 9:15-10:00 AM. This gathering will be a time to meet others in our church who have experienced this profound loss and learn what the group is doing to offer a faith-based support group to our city. No RSVP needed. Please contact Janet Perreault at janlouperr@yahoo.com or Linda Kean at linda@stmikeschurch.com with any questions.

To learn more about the family (single mom Bernadette and her three children), CLICK HERE. IHN Hosting Week

September 1 - 8

Volunteer Jobs for All!

Over half of our volunteer spots needed to effectively host families for a week at St. Mike's are full, but we still have many openings. A sometimes hard to fill position is overnight host, but don't be intimidated. It really is an easy role as you take over as the evening winds down and leave after setting out breakfast and cleaning up a bit. To learn more about all of the jobs - some that can happen on your own schedule during the week or even after the fact - please click below and/or contact one of our IHN Co-Leaders Kelly Belvis at kellydean0409@gmail.com or Andy Laffely at alaffely@msn.com with any questions.
