Board of Education Names

Interim Superintendent

During Wednesday's Board of Education meeting, the board of directors named Art Sathoff as the CRCSD interim superintendent, with an expected start date of November 1, 2022. Sathoff will act as interim superintendent until a new superintendent is hired.

Art is a recently retired superintendent, most recently serving in Indianola. He comes to us highly recommended from the former Executive Director of the School Administrators of Iowa, Roark Horn. Art is known for his compassion and care and we believe he is precisely what this community will need as we mourn the loss of Superintendent Bush. Art has had many accomplishments in his career which include leading his District to a successful bond vote with an 85% yes vote that truly helped bring the Indianola community together.

“I’m honored and humbled to be trusted to serve Cedar Rapids Community District, especially after the loss of Noreen Bush,” says Art Sathoff. “I plan to work hard and be supportive of the students and staff during this time of transition.”

Please note that Hazard, Young, Attea and Associates search firm has been chosen to lead a national search for a CRCSD superintendent. Please see more information here.

Sincerely,

David Tominsky

Board President

NOTE: A survey is now available for your input. This survey is designed to gather your perceptions of the school district and the importance of various characteristics found in effective superintendents. The information will be used to determine the desired characteristics of the new Superintendent. Thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts.

Maple Grove Celebration

Last evening, we celebrated Maple Grove Elementary with a ribbon cutting and open house - cookies and fun were included!

During the ribbing cutting program, the packed Maple Grove cafeteria audience heard from leaders and students about their new school.

"What makes being a Grizzly special to me is the warm welcome we (students) receive every morning when we come through the door," says Maple Grove student, McCoy.

"Maple Grove has a lot of new and cool things in it," shared Kindsy, a Maple Grove student. "I really love the common areas."

Maple Grove opened this school year as the second elementary construction within the Facilities Master Plan.

Pierce Elementary Kicks off Red Ribbon Week

Students at Pierce Elementary gathered on the playground at the start of school this past Monday morning to come together and form a symbol kicking off their week of awareness.

“We made a ribbon with the whole school,” said Carter, a fifth grade student at Pierce.

“It was a cool idea for Red Ribbon week!”

Carter came up with the idea, after being challenged to find creative ways for students to honor Red Ribbon week.
