New Fire Safety Act comes into force after consultation

On August 1, 2024, the Province announced that the new Fire Safety Act has come into effect, introducing a new single standard of fire safety in BC. This comes after several years of consultation with UBCM and the Office of the Fire Commissioner to ensure the new Act will meet members’ needs, specifically regional districts.

In Memoriam: Linda McPhail

With sadness UBCM marks the passing of former UBCM Executive member and longtime councillor for the City of Richmond, Linda McPhail.

Additional Provincial responses to 2023 resolutions

The Province has provided an additional set of responses to the 2023 resolutions. This additional set covers off all but one of the resolutions that were provincially focused and conveyed to the Province following Convention 2023.

Call for participation on the Recycle BC Advisory Committee

UBCM is seeking applicants to fill a vacant position on the Recycle BC Advisory Committee. The Committee is a forum to provide input and advice to Recycle BC staff and its board of directors on the packaging and printed paper product stewardship program. 

Deadline to register for child minding at Convention is August 16

Child minding services are available during Convention for families of local government elected officials. Pre-registration for each child is required by next Friday, August 16, 2024. The service will be managed by a fully licensed and registered childcare provider at the Pan Pacific Hotel. Parents will be charged a nominal fee of $30 per day, plus GST, for each participating child.
