A Message From Your COF Team
As we all know, teaching is hard work. It’s work we take on willingly, and on most days, with purpose and the desire to make the world a better place. While I think it’s evident what we do matters, it never hurts to receive validation. We’d like to take a moment to share an article on what the research says about the connection between school friendships and the positive effects it can have on learning.
What the Research Shows About the Academic Power of Friendship outlines the positive impact having friends in school has on grades, engagement, and task completion. In addition, the author Gail Cornwall provides ideas for teachers to help students who struggle to make friends. She points out among other things, the importance of equalizing status, particularly for children who are different. She shares the benefits of encouraging kids to find shared similarities. These are exactly the kinds of things we know you’re doing regularly in your Circle of Friends groups. If you find this article interesting, it’s one in a larger body of work on friendships in school. Take a look and feel good about your Circle of Friends!
