Chairman's introduction
As I write, the news of the passing of Queen Elizabeth II dominates the headlines. An amazing person who demonstrated an incredible commitment to duty of service. With her passing we now have King Charles III. Given Charles’ long-standing interest in and commitment to environmental repair, it will be interesting to see how he might position the monarchy in that respect.

Welcome changes will help reverse environmental degradation
The Mulloon Institute heartily welcomes the Environment and Water Minister Tanya Plibersek’s calls for structural reform and new environmental legislation.

The obstacles of state-based regulations for environmental repair work reinforces the need for a national approach, to ensure Australia can substantially restore its degraded landscapes and boost their resilience to a changing climate.

Being more Climate Friendly
Climate Friendly's latests project under the Future Drought Fund's Natural Resource Management Drought Resilience Program, aims to increase understanding of how carbon farming activities can affect drought resilience. They are partnering with Mulloon Consulting for this project.

National Landcare Conference
Research Coordinator Luke Peel presented a summary of the scientific monitoring results from the Mulloon Rehydration Initiative at the National Landcare Conference in Sydney, highlighting increasing trends in flora and fauna.
Scientific Monitoring
The science team has been surveying frogs and fish, monitoring hydrology and managing data, and will soon be diving more deeply into changes to ground and surface water on the Lower Mulloon floodplain.

It’s about learning from each other, enriching cultural connections and sharing landscape rehydration knowledge between us.

Farms update
With spring starting, we remain wary of the ongoing La Niña weather and its record breaking rains. While the rain is welcome, some drier spells would suit our very damp chickens and allow for on-ground works. The weather is further evidence that climate patterns are being disrupted by a broken water cycle – something that our landscape rehydration and regeneration is working to address.

Principal Landscape Planner Peter Hazell has recently run a workshop for Southern New England Landcare NSW (see video), and visited the Capertee Valley NSW to support the first landholder meeting for what is hoped to become the Emu Swamp Rehydration Initiative.
Northern Territory
The Centralian Project is scaling up landscape rehydration and sustainable management practices to restore natural functions in two central Australian rangeland catchments.
And a landscape rehydration workshop has been held for NT Farmers in the Douglas Daly region.
Western Australia
The WA Landscape Rehydration Information Hub has been launched, and the WA landscape rehydration literature review is now available for download. Plus, you can catch up on 'farm moment's from the Pensinis and the Kowalds.
Queensland
An introductory workshop has been held at the ‘Stone Hut’ property as part of the Lansdown Catchment Rehydration Initiative. And CEO Carolyn Hall has visited Far North Queensland to meet key partners and landholders.
