Navigating Avian Influenza: From Prevention to Recovery
Learn from USDA and other experts about how to keep your flocks safe from highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI). This session is for farmers and farm-based educators with educational flocks. The webinar will cover signs and symptoms, what to watch out for during fall migration, and how to develop an effective biosecurity and response plan. Pros from working educational farms will share their experiences with HPAI outbreaks and lessons learned.

Western Mass Farm-Based Education Learning Journey
This series of farm tours will offer a deep dive deep into program strengths and attributes, while you take in the sights, sounds, and smells of each host farm. We’ll share activities, meals and reflections as we explore together. To accommodate varying schedules and interests, registration is offered on a per farm basis, so you can customize your itinerary. Farms include: High Spirit Farm (a therapeutic lifesharing community), Gould Farm (harvesting hope, promoting recovery), Greenagers at April Hill (regenerative agriculture with young adults) and Hawthorne Valley Farm (integrating agriculture, education and art since 1972).

ABCs of Farm-Based Education
Are you looking to build a farm-based education program, or inspire your existing programming? At this workshop, you’ll fill your toolbox with kid-tested activities as you join a community of peers from around the region. Spend time in hands-on, activity-based learning while you explore Shelburne Farms’ dairy, farmyard, garden, and forest classrooms. Experience activities from Shelburne Farms’ publications Project Seasons and Cultivating Joy and Wonder as we discuss ways to engage school groups and farm visitors of all ages. In addition to activity sharing and program development, we’ll gather tips for creating a safe learning environment and will have ample time for getting to know one another and our respective farm-based education sites. Through their farm, Soulfull Simone Farm, they're pursuing their dream of owning their own large piece farmland <<as debt free as possible>> where folks can come to heal and learn without judgment. The sole mission of the National Grant Foundation is to educate individuals and organizations in the skills and best practices needed to successfully find – and apply for – attainable grants for themselves and their organizations. The Foundation offers many different classes in grant writing, fundraising, email marketing and more. Have you taken a class with them before? FBEN doesn't know them personally but their workshops look helpful!

Shelby Geitner, a Masters student in Agroecology, started researching farm-based education in 2019, and found there wasn't a lot to draw from. After that, she conducted her own research which you can find summarized here and during her May presentation to FBEN attendees. We're so happy to have Shelby's contributions, which included several recommendations for FBEN!

(Full or Part-Time) The After-school Educator will be responsible for the safety, well-being, and daily activities of youth at our after-school program located in Riverton Square, a residential complex in Harlem. The After-school Educator will develop and lead hands-on lessons for children in grades 1 to 8 that meet Harlem Grown’s learning objectives. Activities may include cooking lessons, gardening, arts and crafts, and homework help. Applications are open through 9/30 for Farm School NYC's Citywide Program: Farm School NYC offers an urban agriculture education program rooted in food justice and social justice. This year, as they continue responding to the ever-changing circumstances of Covid-19, Farm School has evolved to offer a one-year Citywide program. This program is rooted in New York City on Lenape land. Utilizing a multi-dimensional, hands-on approach that centers BIPOC land traditions and community building, the program consists of 12 courses beginning December 2022 and running through to the following December 2023.

Women, Food and Agriculture Network exists so that women can give each other the information, connections, and encouragement they need to be effective practitioners and supporters of sustainable agriculture and healthy localized food systems. Their virtual gathering is coming up December 2-3!

The results are in from the National Young Farmers Coalition 2022 survey! Every five years, they survey young farmers and ranchers across the country to present a clear picture of their challenges and promises, and to call for a farm bill that serves the next generation in agriculture. Budding Botanist Grants Due October 14
Designed to further the mission of the Klorane Botanical Foundation, the Budding Botanist grant will help students learn about plants, explore their world, and inspire them to take care of the life they discover in their local ecosystems. In 2023, twenty schools across the country will be awarded $1000 each in grant funding.
