The Beltran Family paid off their Habitat home!
Congratulations to the Beltran Family, our 84th Partner Family, for paying off their Habitat home last month! As many of you remember, Julio and Erika built their home alongside numerous volunteers at 1033 Reed Street in Denton back in 2011. The home was built as part of Habitat's Homeownership program, and was dedicated to them in December of that year, meaning this hardworking family paid off their mortgage in less than 11 years! We are continually amazed by and honored to work with families like these. This family has accomplished something truly incredible, thanks to YOUR support!

In case you missed it, Levatta Crawford, our 106th homeowner, moved into her Habitat two weeks ago, just in time to make a summer's worth of memories with her 5 kiddos in their new home. Because of her hard work, she is giving her children the best gift of all: the foundation for a better future.

This home was sponsored and built by Habitat's Interfaith Coalition. We were truly inspired by this partnership of faith organizations across Denton County and their willingness to come together to serve God and neighbor in this tangible, life-changing way. Watch this video to hear more about the heart behind this build and this community.
Hardworking, low-income families in need of decent, affordable housing apply for homeownership through our Homeownership Program. Through the lengthy application process, our volunteer Homeownership Services Committee selects homeowners anonymously based on three main criteria: 1) The applicant's level of need; 2) Their willingness to partner with Habitat; and 3) Their ability to repay a mortgage through an affordable payment plan. This selection then moves to Habitat's Board of Directors for final approval, which is also done anonymously, meaning the families' names, ethnicities, and other identifiable details are undisclosed.

Once selected, Habitat's homebuyers invest 300-400 hours of their own labor, called "sweat equity," into the building of their home. They work alongside many volunteers and other Habitat homeowners, in addition to receiving financial education.

The application process for our Homeownership Program is typically open twice a year (right now it is currently closed). Some of our families apply to the program multiple times before getting accepted, working hard in between applications to work on their debt, credit, and other financial issues affecting their ability to qualify.

Clearly, the families we get to work with are incredibly hardworking and deserving of the opportunity to build a better future for themselves and their families through this program. Your support of Habitat Denton gives these families a hand up, rather than a handout, in establishing a stable, secure foundation for their future.

Meet the ReStore's Assistant Manager: Brennan Moreno! He joined the ReStore staff in April of 2019, and we are so grateful to have him as an incredibly valuable, flexible, and hardworking member of our team. Brennan does a lot of heavy lifting around the store (even in this crazy heat!) and also helps with collecting and sorting donations. He enjoys seeing something new every day, problem solving, and being a team leader.

After gaining valuable work experience at other home improvement stores in town, Brennan was ultimately drawn to working at the ReStore because of Habitat's mission and community-driven goals. His favorite parts about working for Habitat are being able to make a difference in the community, encourage recycling, and have a sense of fulfillment at the end of a long day. Come say "hi" to Brennan at the ReStore today!

The ReStore has new store hours: 8:30 AM - 5:00 PM on Tuesday - Saturday at 1805 Cornell Lane, Denton, TX 76201.
Due to the heat, we take a break from building during the Summer each year. Keep an eye out for information regarding our next home build, set to begin this September in Denton!

We are raising funds to develop 8 acres of vacant land in Southeast Denton and establish a new "Habitat Village" housing development on the property. As many as 35 new affordable homes will be built alongside local families in need via this development. This project involves developing the infrastructure of this neighborhood, including the streets, sidewalks, utilities, proper drainage requirements, and everything else needed to support a neighborhood of 35 homes.

The majority of our funds are raised by local individuals and local organizations, so we are relying on YOUR continued support to carry us forward. Would you consider making a gift to the Habitat Village today?
Did you know automobiles are the most recycled consumer product in the world today? About 80 percent of a car can be recycled. According to the Steel Mint Group, more than 14 million tons of recycled steel is derived from "junk" vehicles each year. Imagine if that were donated! If you're looking to support Habitat for Humanity of Denton County, this is a great way to do so.
From now through September 17, you can adopt a duck for the Duck Derby at Cross Timbers Rotary Club's Rhythms at the River Walk fundraiser! For each duck we sell from Habitat Denton's personal web page, Cross Timbers Rotary Club will donate one "Buck-A-Duck" ($1) to Habitat Denton!

Thank you, Cross Timbers Rotary Club, for this fun way to give back to local nonprofits!
