Our area is currently under a tropical storm watch. A tropical storm watch means tropical storm winds are possible within the the next 48 hours.


With strong tropical winds and rain comes the possibility of isolated tornados and local flooding.



The City of South Miami will be distributing sandbags today from 1:30pm until 4:00pm. These hours may be extended if needed.


  • Bags are being distributed at the City of South Miami Public Works Department, 4795 SW 75th Avenue.
  • Limit six (6) bags per car.
  • Please remain in your car and open the trunk. Bags will be loaded for you.


You may call 305-403-2063 if you need more information.


Please be extremely careful. Do not walk or drive through standing water. If you have items outside that could be blown over, please make sure they are secured or brought into a protected area.


All Parks & Recreation activities are suspended on Wednesday, September 28th and Thursday, September 29th.  This includes after school, senior, and athletic programs.


The following closures are in effect for Wednesday, September 28th and Thursday, September 29th:


  • Gibson-Bethel Community Center
  • Brewer Park tennis courts
  • Dante Fascell Park tennis center and office
  • South Miami Dog Park
  • Murray Park Aquatic Center


The decision to resume normal operations on Friday will be made Thursday.
