The 161st Street Business Improvement District Congratulates Aaron Judge
for Tying Roger Maris’ Homerun Record at 61

Bronx, New York, September 29, 2022 - The 161st Street Business Improvement District (BID) would like to congratulate Aaron Judge of the New York Yankees for hitting his 61st homerun of the season and tying another Yankee Slugger Roger Maris and the American League single season homerun record at 61. History was made last night against the Toronto Blue Jays when Judge hit number 61.

The 161st Street BID has been abuzz the past couple of weeks with bars like Stan’s Sports Bar (836 River Avenue) and Bronx Drafthouse (884 Gerard Avenue) being the place to be for your favorite drink or food before and after the game as fans. Now that Judge has gotten the hard part out of the way, he’ll look to hit more homeruns and set a new record in the Yankees final seven games.

“Since the baseball season was able to start only a couple of days late, Yankee fans and the community have poured into our small businesses to bring revenue to our district”, said Trey Jenkins, Executive Director at the 161st Street BID. “The Yankees having a historic season, and of course Aaron Judge making history, only helps our small businesses as we continue to move forward from the pandemic. We cannot wait for the playoffs as the Yankees look to bring home their 28th World Series title and let’s see how many more homeruns Judge hits!”

As the Yankees move towards the playoffs and Judge continues his run as the true homerun king looking to hit his 62nd record breaking homerun in their final seven games, the BID will continue its Instagram campaign with their own countdown and a chance to win $50 gift cards to Stan’s Sports Bar and Yankee Tavern (72 E161st Street).

With over 15 bars and restaurants in the area including The Dugout (880 River Avenue), Billy’s Sports Bar (856 River Avenue), Yankee Twin Eatery (844 River Avenue), Vega Sports Bar (880 Gerard Avenue), Papa Juan Cigar Room (886 Gerard Avenue), Molino Rojo Restaurant (101 East 161st Street) and Court Deli Restaurant (96 East 161st Street), there’s always plenty of places to wet your whistle or grab a bite to eat before, during and after the game. There are also plans for the BID to work with mural artist Andre Trenier to create another mural highlighting Judge’s great homerun achievement.

The Yankees have a day off on Thursday, but have their final homestand against the Baltimore Orioles this weekend before traveling to Dallas to take on the Texas Rangers to close out the season. On Tuesday, October 11 the quest for 28 begins with the start of the American League Division Series at Yankee Stadium.
