Rosemary Caldwell Volunteer of the Year

The Rosemary Caldwell Volunteer of the Year Award is the only formal award that the Contra Costa Crisis Center bestows. It is named in honor of a former crisis line director at our agency and honors an outstanding individual whose unselfish work for the well-being of others embodies the highest standards of volunteerism. This year we are proud to announce Ann Khadalia as our 2023 Rosemary Caldwell Volunteer of the Year Award recipient!

Ann has a long history with the Crisis Center, as she has been involved with the agency for decades both as a volunteer and a staff member. However, most recently, Ann has been volunteering within the Call Center and as a Grief Group Facilitator since 2018. Ann’s loving spirit makes everyone who participates in grief groups and calls our lines feel welcome and supported.

You can tell the moment that Ann enters the Crisis Center, as you can probably hear her boisterous laugh and feel the compassionate energy radiating off of her. We are unbelievably lucky to have a volunteer like Ann. Please join me in thanking Ann for selflessly serving others in moments of crisis and grief.

A message from the Executive Director

Hello Center Friends and Supporters!

As you may know, September is Suicide Prevention Awareness Month. What you may not know is that over a year ago the number to reach us, if you or someone you know is in crisis, was simplified to 988. Like in years past, anyone can call or text us 24/7 to reach a trained counselor to receive support and find resources in their community to help them along the way. We are proud to answer both local and out-of-area calls and are grateful to our dedicated team of call center volunteers and staff for their skilled and compassionate work. Please help us get the word out about our agency and the services that we provide. I’ve attached a QR Code that you can share with your friends, family, and on your social media, that directs people to our website.

Until next time, thank you for all the ways you support the center!

Tom

Leftovers Thrift Shop
Leftovers was created in 1976 by three community minded women who were seeking a way to generate funds for the Contra Costa Crisis Center. The result was ‘Leftovers’, a thrift shop located in a former bunkhouse in Moraga. Following several moves Leftovers was re-located to its present address – 2281 Olympic Blvd, Walnut Creek.
Leftovers is a non-profit thrift shop, with no paid staff. All earnings go to organizations serving people in need, mainly the Contra Costa Crisis Center. They also support Meals on Wheels, Contra Costa Food Bank, Bay Area Crisis Nursery, the Rossmoor Fund and the Rossmoor Scholarship Fund.
