SFIC ONLINE BRIEFING FOR COMMUNITY AND FAITH PARTNERS

STRENGTHENING FAMILIES AND DECREASING RISK
FOR SUICIDE AND HOMELESSNESS FOR LGBTQ YOUTH

September 8, 2022

Earlier today, the San Francisco Interfaith Council (SFIC) hosted the 85th in a series of online briefings for community and faith partners. Today's briefing featured Family Acceptance Project (FAP) Founder and Director Caitlin Ryan, whose evidenced-based family support model has enabled scores of diverse parents and families to support their LGBTQ children to prevent serious health risks related to stigma, rejection and discrimination and to increase well-being, grounded in the family's religious and cultural values. Her presentation provided information and access to resources to help congregation religious and lay leaders decrease risk for LGBTQ young people by increasing family connectedness and support.

The briefing may be viewed in its entirety below:
Also participating were Zoom Briefing Moderator/SFIC Executive Director Michael Pappas and SFIC Board Chair / First Unitarian Universalist Society Senior Minister Rev. Vanessa Rush Southern, Jewish Community Relations Council (JCRC) Chief Executive Officer Tyler Gregory and Graduate Theological Union (GTU/Berkeley) Former Visiting Professor and Director of Mormon Studies Robert A. Reese, Ph.D. Special appreciation is extended to SFIC Program/Administrative Associate Cynthia Zamboukos and Enceladus Event Production and Consulting principal Tre Russell Allen.

Please join us on Thursday, September 22, 2022, at 8:30 am, when San Francisco Health Officer Dr. Susan Philip will brief SFIC community and faith partners on the status of COVID-19 in our City and the threat of a fall spike, with a focus on vaccine equity, especially among BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) and other vulnerable populations. She will also speak to San Francisco's response to the recent Monkeypox spread and vaccine accessibility.
A special thanks…
