Adult Formation kicks off this Sunday!

Our 2022 Adult Formation program begins this Sunday with so many ways to discover, learn, be challenged, and, of course, connect & reconnect with fellow St. James’sers.

On most Sundays (including this Sunday), all of our Adult Formation activities will be on the first floor of Michaux House, making it easy to find what you want. Here’s what we have scheduled for this Sunday:
Adult Forum is in Valentine Hall and features a guest each Sunday discussing our theme, “The Power of Community.” This week’s forum features Mike Maruca, Head of School at the Anna Julia Cooper School in Richmond, and founding director of Sacred Heart Center in Richmond and, for ten years, the Middle School Head of The Steward School.

Mike will be with us to talk about “The Power of Community” through the lens of education as he tells stories about his life and his work.
The Rev. Doug Wigner will be leading a book study on the Christian Classic, "The Will of God".
This book study will seek to discern God's Will and learn how to determine it personally and in the community. Book study meets in the Michaux House library.

St. James's parishioner Nancy Hein will be leading The Gifts of Spiritual Practice in Michaux House, Room 201. This is a small group setting to explore and discuss the gifts of of spiritual practice handed down through the centuries.

And there will coffee available for parishioners to get together in the Michaux House Parlors to connect with each other between services.

The St. James’s Celebration: A Feast of Goodwill & Connection is just around the corner. On October 26, we’ll be gathering at the Dewey Gottwald Center at the Science Museum of Virginia for a wonderful night of dining, live music, entertainment, an open beer and wine bar, and countless chances to Connect & Reconnect.

While we have a lot planned, the most important element is you. This special event is free but there's a suggested voluntary donation of $10 per person.

To register and donate, go here.

The Celebration isn't possible without our MUCH NEEDED VOLUNTEERS. You can sign-up here.
Get your very own St. James’s
Name Tag to have and keep.

The church will now happily make a permanent name tag for you, complete with a plastic holder that has your choice of a magnet attacher or a pin/clip.

Just go to this registration page, answer two questions, and your new name tag will be waiting for you in the Narthex (the church entrance) the following Sunday. There are about 150 Name Tags waiting to be picked up right now.

You can also go to doers.org, scroll down on the Home Page to the Latest News, and you'll see the Name Tag square. Click on that and it will take you to the registration page.
Confirmation Kick off meeting
is this Sunday, September 25.

Our kick-off meeting is this Sunday, September 25 from 12:30-2:30 pm. We’ll begin with lunch church and then discuss the confirmation process. All confirmands and their parents should attend.

Confirmation is one of the most meaningful and fascinating parts of a young person's life --especially here at St. James's, where our confirmation program has become a mode for other churches around the country.
Walking the Richmond Slave Trail together.

Next Saturday, October 1 at 9 am, join us as we walk the historic and moving Slave Trail, led by the Rev. Ben Campbell, social justice advocate and author of "Richmond’s Unhealed History".

The 2.1 mile walk follows the route taken by enslaved people destined for the slave market, starting in Manchester and ending at Lumpkin’s Jail.

Afterward we’ll gather for a brown bag lunch at St. James’s to discuss what we’ve just experienced.

Space is limited. Please RSVP to Melinda Davis at mdavis81@gmail.com as soon as possible.
The next Young Family Social is Saturday, October 8th

Our first Young Family Social a few weeks back was a huge success. To be part of the next one, save the date: October 8 from 4 to 6 pm.

The social will be held at the home of Erin and Bryce Jewett (5 Paxton Road). St. James’s will provide snacks, water, and lemonade. Please feel free to bring a favorite beverage to enjoy! If you have children living at home, these socials are for you!

Calling all parents!
You’re invited to
our Youth Parent Socials.

For any parent who wants to spend some casual time with other parents, mark your calendar for Friday, October 14 and November 11.

Those are the dates for our Youth Parent Socials, gatherings for youth parents at a bar, where you can engage in fellowship with each other from 6 to 7:30. Details to follow. But at least get the dates on your very busy calendars.

Wednesday Eucharist Service

A new worship tradition has begun here at St. James’s with our noon Eucharist service. Moving forward, we’ll celebrate Rite II every Wednesday at 12 pm in the Chapel. It’s the perfect way to find a sense of peace, fellowship and nearness to God in the middle of a busy day in the center of a hectic week.

We look forward to seeing you in the Chapel at noon. Blessings.
Coffee on The Corner

On the second and fourth Tuesdays of the month look for Blake to be meeting our neighbors with a warm cup of coffee on the corner of Birch and Franklin. It’s a great way to introduce folks to St. James’s, and to connect with our neighbors.
Parishioner who died recently:

Hylah Boyd (d. 9/20/22)

We commend Hylah to God’s love.

If you would like information on how to reach out to the loved ones of the deceased, please do not hesitate to contact the church offices.

Here are the names of those we're remembering in our prayers this week.

We do our best to keep this list current, but if you want your name added or removed, please contact Mary Brown or call her at 804-355-1779, ext. 313.
