NYLT Staff Interviews

 

Have you already participated in NYLT and looking to continue to develop as a leader? The 2024 NYLT is looking for youth staff members to serve on this summer's NYLT staff. The NYLT Leadership will be holding open interviews on Sunday February 21st, between 10am and 2pm. Want to join the team? Bring your Scouting resume and come to Base Camp on Sunday.

Eastern New England College of Commissioner Science

Councils from Maine to Rhode Island are collaborating to present the 2024 Eastern New England College of Commissioner Science.


Course offerings include 3 hr Commissioner Basic Training Sessions for Unit Commissioners, Roundtable Commissioners and District/Asst. District Commissioners as well as 49 other 1 hour session. A new session this year will be a review of the upcoming Cub Scout Advancement changes. Although primarily geared to the education of commissioners, the College is open to all registered adult leaders. Registered commissioners can upon completion of the appropriate course work apply for Associates, Bachelors, Master, or Doctor of Commissioner Science degrees or Certificate of Continuing Studies. Non-commissioners maybe able to apply attendance at the College to Supplemental Training requirements for Position Specific Training awards. Winter Klondikes


This is a wonderful opportunity for scouts to get outside, enjoy winter activities, and put their Scouting skills to the test. 2024 Annual Membership Fee Update


Effective March 1, 2024, the BSA will eliminate the $25 one-time joining fee for new program participants in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting.


  • $85/yr for Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, Venturing and Sea Scouting participants ($5 increase)
  • $65/yr for all adult volunteers ($5 increase)
  • $30/yr for Scoutreach (No change in fee)
  • $25/yr for Merit Badge Counselors (No change in fee. Only for Merit Badge Counselors not already registered as leaders)
  • $50/yr for Exploring participants Youth & Adult (No change in fee)
  • $100/yr unit renewal/affiliation fee (No change in fee)
  • $15/yr for Scout Life magazine (No change in fee)
  • Excludes Council Program Fees

Robert Baden-Powell said Scouting was a game with a purpose. The Spirit of Adventure Council is partnering with UMASS Lowell, where learning is their purpose to bring back the Math Science and Technology Expo.

Spirit Of Adventure Law Enforcement Explorers

Visit Boston Police Headquarters

 

On Wednesday, December 27th, 2023, Law Enforcement Exploring Posts from Methuen, Wilmington, Westwood and North Andover visited the Boston Police Headquarters for a morning of learning and networking. The visit was coordinated by Boston Police Deputy Superintendent Nicole Grant (Bureau of Community Engagement), SoA Exploring Commissioner Dan Perenick and SoA Membership Executive Jenn Erickson. All Explorers and Advisors were welcomed by Deputy Grant in the Media Room and took part in presentations from the Firearms Analysis Unit, Crime Lab/DNA Section, Community Engagement Officers, Latent Print Unit, Crime Scene Response Unit and finished with a visit of the Boston Police Operations/Communications Center.


Special thanks to Deputy Superintendent Grant, Deputy Superintendent Dan Humphreys and all of the Boston Police officers and civilians who made the visit a great success.
