When Brooke Goudy first went to college, she spread her wings and prepared to fly with one goal in mind: to be an artist. However, when she arrived in Denver her plans changed. Brooke was inspired by her grandmother who went to one of the first Black nursing schools in the United States, so she set her sights on a new dream: to be a nurse.
Brooke traveled to Alabama to pursue her nursing education. Today, Brooke is a member of the Black Nurses Association of Colorado, and here at DPS, we know her as the kind, dynamic and supportive school nurse at Bromwell Elementary.
Outside of nursing, Brooke is also an accomplished cyclist! In fact, Brooke is a co-leader and a founder of two different organizations aimed at encouraging Black women who are interested in bicycling to get into the sport. Brooke is a transformational leader who leads by example to bring Black women into the world of cycling through representation.
“To be Black means many things. It means to celebrate a people that are so resilient, and so strong. To celebrate a people who have overcome so much and still exude so much joy,” said Brooke.
