Celebrating Black Excellence: Brooke Goudy Spotlight
When Brooke Goudy first went to college, she spread her wings and prepared to fly with one goal in mind: to be an artist. However, when she arrived in Denver her plans changed. Brooke was inspired by her grandmother who went to one of the first Black nursing schools in the United States, so she set her sights on a new dream: to be a nurse.

Brooke traveled to Alabama to pursue her nursing education. Today, Brooke is a member of the Black Nurses Association of Colorado, and here at DPS, we know her as the kind, dynamic and supportive school nurse at Bromwell Elementary

Outside of nursing, Brooke is also an accomplished cyclist! In fact, Brooke is a co-leader and a founder of two different organizations aimed at encouraging Black women who are interested in bicycling to get into the sport. Brooke is a transformational leader who leads by example to bring Black women into the world of cycling through representation.

“To be Black means many things. It means to celebrate a people that are so resilient, and so strong. To celebrate a people who have overcome so much and still exude so much joy,” said Brooke.

Many of Brooke’s colleagues and students have shared her impact on them -- watch the video to hear more!

UPK Colorado Application Window Extended: Feb. 17-24
Because of the great response, and to accommodate the changes providers have made, the Colorado Department of Early Childhood (CDEC) is extending the Universal Preschool (UPK) Colorado application window! The UPK Colorado application window has been reopened and will close Friday, Feb. 24.

During this window, families who have already selected their providers can revisit their application to reevaluate their choices and ensure they still have the best providers selected to meet their needs for the 2023-24 school year. New families can also submit an application before the first round of matching.

After the Round 1 application window closes, the CDEC will take the first round of applicants and begin the matching process. By March 30, families will receive an email from the state letting them know which provider they were matched with and the next steps for enrollment at their matched provider.

As a reminder, UPK Colorado is not a first-come, first-served program. All applications submitted by Feb. 24 are part of Round 1 and will be matched together. Families can begin their application at any time and return to it as many times as needed before submitting.

Have questions about the UPK Colorado application process? Call 303-866-5223 or email cdec_upkcolorado@state.co.us.
