Black History Month, February 2023

As the nation marks and celebrates Black History Month, churches, schools, work places and communities are finding meaningful ways to lift up and name the gifts and contributions of Black Americans. The month encourages learning, celebration and for many an honest reckoning of past harms that continue to have current implications.

In a new book, “What Kind of Christianity: A History of Slavery and Anti-Black Racism in the Presbyterian Church,” author William Yoo, of Columbia Theological Seminary, offers a timely exploration of our denomination’s complicated history on these issues.

Numerous members of our presbytery have read the book and recommend it as an important piece of work in helping Presbyterians

understand our past and work together to envision and shape a different future.

Perhaps this month is a good time to pick up the book and join with others in meaningful conversation as we seek to shape a more just, diverse and equitable presbytery.

Intercultural Mosaics Makes The News!

General Assembly has declared this the “Presbyterian Decade to End Gun Violence.”

The NCCP Mission Support Committee is forming a

Presbytery-Wide Working Group to End Gun Violence.

We invite all members and friends of the Presbytery to join.

This new group is lodged within the NCCP Mission Support Committee with leaders

Cheryl Hunt and Nancy Disher.

The expectation is to have regular monthly meetings (by zoom to begin) which would be open to all members and friends of the Presbytery.

The purpose would be to initiate and participate in activities including Guns to Gardens Safe Surrender Events. Another activity is to enable conversations in our churches of our relationship to violence, of our fears and hopes for the safety of our children.

If you want to be part of this conversation, contact:
