Cybersecurity Awareness Month
Since 2004, the President of the United States and Congress have declared October to be Cybersecurity Awareness Month, helping individuals protect themselves online as threats to technology and confidential data become more commonplace.

There are four easy ways to protect yourself online:
  1. Enable multi-factor authentication (MFA) for all important online activities to provide an additional layer of security.
  2. Use strong passwords because it can prevent cyber criminals from gaining access to your accounts.
  3. Recognize and report phishing attacks which can infect your machine with malware. Understand what they look like and how to report them.
  4. Update software to ensure the most current protection.

You can greatly increase your cybersecurity online, at work and at home by taking a few simple steps. Learn more at: https://www.cisa.gov/cybersecurity-awareness-month

October 6th, 9:00am - 12:30pm

Join NHMA Legal Services Counsel Stephen Buckley and Municipal Services Counsel Jonathan Cowal for this year’s A Hard Road to Travel workshop and the debut of our first fully updated publication since 2015! This is a hybrid workshop which will help local officials understand some of the more complicated areas of highway law including a review of the local regulation of highways by the select board, mailbox location, driveway regulation by the planning board, defining the difference between a right-of-way, a public road and a private road, and determining exactly which public entity has the final say in regulating the roads within our towns.
October 15th, 9:00am - 3:00pm

This is a virtual event with many sessions throughout the day, including: Housing Appeals Board Update, Planning Board Procedures 101, Zoning 101, and more.

November 16th & 17th

Please join on Wednesday, November 16 and Thursday, November 17 at the DoubleTree by Hilton Downtown Manchester. Our theme this year is “Getting Used to Different.” It’s been nearly two years and New Hampshire municipalities are still “getting used to different” and adapting to the extraordinary events of the pandemic. Elected and appointed officials have been faced with tough challenges and opportunities to create new programs and services that best meet the changing needs of their residents. This year’s conference will be held as a live, in person event in Manchester both days with simultaneous live-streaming for virtual attendees.

Please note that NHMA training sessions and workshops are open to NHMA members.
October 13th, 11:30am - 1:30pm

Please join us for an in-depth panel discussion on the housing crisis here in the Granite State. The scarcity of affordable housing for working people continues to hamper the ability of employers around the state to hire and retain much-needed new talent. Our expert panel will discuss what’s been done, what initiatives are currently underway, and what new programs and resources should be considered next legislative session to increase housing stock in New Hampshire
October 14th, 8:00am - 4:30pm

The Local Energy Solutions (LES) Conference is New Hampshire’s premier event of the year, bringing together local energy champions, policymakers, municipal officials, town staff, regulators, and industry representatives. The LES Conference, sponsored by NHSaves, features presentations by industry leaders, panel discussions on the Granite State’s most pressing topics, and demonstrations of new clean energy technologies - including an EV Expo!
Attendees will have the opportunity to network with the energy community throughout the state - from energy conscious individuals who want to learn more about what is happening in the energy industry in New Hampshire, to the state legislators who create the state’s energy policies.
October 17th - 19th at Sunday River Resort

The conference committee has spent months working on an agenda that will touch on all aspects of the planning world in Northern New England. This year's conference includes an additional half day of programming, kicking off with a lunch keynote speaker on Monday. Between Monday and Wednesday, you will have the opportunity to earn up to 10 CM Credits. In addition to the Annual State Cocktail Competition, this year's conference will also see the return of our Annual Awards Program dinner.

NH Ten Year Transportation Plan
Project Solicitation
The New Hampshire 10-Year Transportation Improvement Plan (“Ten Year Plan”) is a fiscally-constrained program of state– and federal funded transportation projects. The Ten Year Plan is updated biennially. As part of the biennial update of the Ten Year Plan, each of the nine New Hampshire Regional Planning Commissions (RPCs) leads a process to identify and prioritize transportation projects in their respective regions for inclusion in the Plan.
In June, NRPC began the process of soliciting new projects from our municipalities for potential inclusion in the State Ten Year Transportation Improvement Plan (TYP) for the FY 2025 to 2034 period. Potential projects can include bicycle and pedestrian improvements such as sidewalks or bike paths, in addition to road and bridge improvements.

The deadline for submissions was August 5th and we received 18 project proposals from 6 NRPC communities. At the September TTAC meeting, communities gave presentations on their project submissions. Visit the TYP webpage to view project summaries, as well as minutes and video from the 9/14 TTAC meeting.

In the upcoming months each project will be scored based on a set of criteria agreed upon by NH DOT and the nine NH Regional Planning Commissions and then prioritized accordingly for submission to the state in November.
You may have missed....
  • NRPC's traffic counting team tested out the new AI 100 Traffic Camera, a video-based traffic counter! The hope is to possibly use the camera system in the future, instead of the standard roadway tubes, to collect traffic count data (vehicle volume, classification, and speed) at locations where traffic volume and speed is higher and tube installation is a safety concern.
