MESSAGE FROM RICKY

Dear Friends,

This coming Sunday in worship, we will be recognizing our long-standing relationship with Scouting Ministries here at First United Methodist Church. We'll have representatives from our scouting units with us in worship.

We also want to encourage all our kids and youth who participate in scouting, whether at our church or not, to wear your uniform so we can recognize you! And, if you were part of scouting in the past feel free to wear some memorabilia from your time in the program!

Lastly, please continue to be wary if you receive any odd emails or text messages from people claiming to be one of our pastors or staff. Churches are unfortunately often victims of these types of scams. Double-check the email address. Our emails come from @firstmethodistclinton.org. If you get something that looks suspicious, please call the church office to verify. Also, we will never ask you to personally buy gift cards for us or send us any payment through cell phones, etc. But, as always, we will gratefully accept your generous prayers!

Grace and Peace,

Ricky

ASH WEDNESDAY OPPORTUNITIES

On February 22nd, we will enter into the season of Lent by joining together on Ash Wednesday for a time of repentance and worship. Lent is a season in which we observe through a period of fasting, repentance, moderation and spiritual disciplines. It all begins on Ash Wednesday.

During many Ash Wednesday services, the pastor(s) will lightly rub the sign of the cross with ashes onto the foreheads of worshipers. The use of ashes as a sign of mortality and repentance has a long history in Jewish and Christian worship. Historically, ashes signified purification and sorrow for sins.

This Ash Wednesday, we will over the following opportunities for worship:

From 7-8 AM in the Mt. Salus parking lot, our staff will offer Ashes to Go as you head into the work day and school day. Stop by and receive a prayer and your ashes!

Following our Wednesday evening meal at 5:15 PM, we will join together for worship at 6 PM in the Sanctuary for our Traditional Ash Wednesday service.

We hope you'll take one of the opportunities for worship on this day.
