Ice & Oyster Festival Making it's way to Cambridge

CAMBRIDGE, Md. – The third ever Ice and Oyster Festival is making has made its way back to Cambridge and community members say it was a smashing success.

Co-Owner of Vintage 414 Natalie Brewer says the “Dorchester County Chamber of Commerce started it, and the first year they did it was three years ago and they blew it out of the water.”

People are traveling from all over, cities just to see all of the beautiful ice sculptures that were present at the festival.

Definitely pulls people from all over metropolitan areas of DC, Baltimore and Philadelphia,” Co-Owner Emily Salisbury said. “They usually would not visit if this event did not happen.”

There is live music at the event and ice sculptures that community members can even interact with, like a name carving station and miniature ice hockey.

“People are having fun, people are respectful and enjoying themselves, while bringing life to Cambridge,” Co-Owner Emily Salisbury said. “It is just a wonderful event.”

Youth art show kicks off new year at DCA

65a57239d5132 image

CAMBRIDGE — It’s fitting that while 2024 is still young, Dorchester Center for the Arts’ first exhibit celebrates Youthful Minds, Big Ideas.

It’s the first-ever show for the multi-talented students of E.L. Haynes Public Charter School in Washington, D.C. On Saturday, Jan. 13, the gifted youngsters traveled by bus to DCA to attend a Second Saturday reception in their honor.

Instead of finger food hors d’oeuvres, the teens were treated to pizza, cake, and punch to enjoy in between strolling the galleries and savoring the unexpected, exciting sight of their art class creations on display.

Many of the dozens of pieces, hung throughout the Center’s gallery areas, feature a unique optical illusion art form known as Agamograph, a visual kinetic energy method developed by Israeli artist Yaakov Agam in the early 1950s.

Using a technique called lenticular printing, several images are combined on one surface to create illusions of depth when a viewer moves, forming a visual picture that appears to shape shift.

CAMBRIDGE — Two days of fun were packed into one, as changing weather forecasts shortened Cambridge’s annual Ice & Oyster Festival held downtown for the third year.

The festival committee reported oyster vendors served a “staggering amount of oysters”, and attendees shared “lots of smiles.” With amazing sculptures by the Ice Lab, seven oyster vendors, and The Hyatt Regency Chesapeake Bay as presenting sponsor with their ice slide, fun abounded.

Cross and Stearn named Team Members of the Month for December

TMOM2023-12-ShaniquaCross image

Cross was nominated by Dr. David Sechler for demonstrating the values of Accountability, Community, Quality and Service:

“Shaniqua consistently demonstrates professionalism and compassion as she interacts with patients and team members.

Shaniqua goes above and beyond what is expected of her as a medical assistant. I work with Shaniqua daily as we treat breast cancer patients in the office setting. She helps to comfort and reassure patients who are learning of their diagnosis for the first time. This can be a very difficult time for patients, and Shaniqua often spends extra time with the patient after I have completed their visit to hold their hand and help explain the details of any testing and appointments that I have recommended.
