Native Triton Celebrations

Congratulations Class of 2022!

We celebrate Native American and Alaska Native graduates from all over Indian Country and their achievements in a wide variety of academic fields. This year’s graduates represent incredible leaders in our communities both on and off-campus. They are the change-makers, risk-takers, and culture-keepers and UC San Diego is a better place because they were here.

We are incredibly proud of all our graduates! Their contributions, their stories, and their very presence has left a meaningful and important mark on the university and on us.

What We've Been Up To

UC San Diego Powwow

After a two-year hiatus, the UC San Diego Powwow returned in person on May 21st.

It was great to see family, friends and community back at Marshall Field. This year's head staff included Reginald Begay (Head Man), Donda Begay (Head Woman), Tomas DeCrane (Head Boy), Aislynn Arnold (Head Girl), Richard DeCrane (Arena Director) and Randy Edmonds (MC). Our 2022-2023 Powwow Princess is 'Eshash Morales.

Thank you to everyone who helped to plan the powwow, who participated in the powwow, and who came out to take part and enjoy!

I'm Going To College

I'm Going to College (IGTC) is an early outreach college motivation program and a partnership between the Intertribal Resource Center and Chammakilawish, The Pechanga School. Fourth graders are introduced to opportunities in higher education through a 6-week curriculum in the classroom. Then, after they go through an "application" process to attend UC San Diego for a day, each student receives an "acceptance" letter and is invited to campus to experience the life of a Native Triton. This year we also invited the fifth grade class who attend last year's program virtually. It was a great day!

Campus Visits

The spring quarter brought a lot of visitors back to explore all that UC San Diego has to offer. The Intertribal Resource Center welcomed several groups of young Native American students and prospective future Native tritons to campus to show off what life is like as a Native student. These visits also give our current students a chance to show off their favorite parts of campus and shine as role models for the next class of students.
