It's the Most Wonderful Time Of the Year

The holidays are upon us, and with that comes the arrival of Vol.2! Stay warm in your favorite Christmas outfits, start brainstorming on those New Year's resolutions, and share the article so everyone can stay informed with Cristo Rey's recent milestones.

Now, let's dive into some alumni highlights before the year concludes!

WOW! The love is in the air for some of our Alums! We're so happy to see them celebrating love with their partners and a few that are even high school sweethearts! Down below are their comments!

Shanel '14 Top left: "I recently got married back in September in New Rochelle, NY!"

Carlos '12 Top middle: "My wife and I got married in Cancun back on Oct.7. We started dating during our first year at Clark University in Worcester."

Skyler '15 Top Right: "On October 16th, I got engaged to my college sweetheart, Edward. Edward popped the question over an intimate dinner in their home with their dog, Rex, in attendance. Edward and I met during their freshman year at SUNY New Paltz and have been inseparable ever since. We plan to tie the knot in the Spring of 2024."

One-Way Ticket to Nostalgia!

The Cheers to Twenty Years Bash on November 29th brought together alumni from all years. The festive atmosphere, filled with catching up, a wonderful buffet, and an open bar, allowed attendees to connect across generations and learn more about the dedicated staff. The event served as a powerful reminder of the shared passion for a successful future, fostering a sense of unity. Angelique Agudo, a passionate leader from the Class of 2010, exemplifies the spirit of being a great example of a CRNY alum. Explore her bio on the right for more insights.

"Passionate about empowering youth through the arts and afterschool programs. As an experienced Program Director, I’ve dedicated 5 years to nurturing talent and fostering creativity in the dance industry. Joyous Christmas Celebration Holiday Open House

Cristo Rey's annual Holiday Open House on December 6th was very successful, featuring special guests who reminisced about the early years of the school. Attendees enjoyed drinks, Hors d'Oeuvres, a choir performance, and school tours. The event celebrated the collective impact of everyone present on Cristo Rey's success, providing an opportunity to express gratitude.

The addition of a panel, moderated by WNBC's Kay Angrum '12 and featuring Sr. Jude, Catherine Petty, Aleksander Perpalaj '10, and Daniel Estevez '10, offered insights into the evolution of Cristo Rey. Explore Daniel Estevez's annual report sneak peek on the right for more details.

Daniel Estevez '10

Daniel Estevez worked for several CWSP partners during his

time at Cristo Rey, including the Museum of El Barrio, Lazard Capital Markets (an investment firm), and two multinational law firms: Jones Day, and Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. With Skadden, he continued to work after high school and throughout his time at Post University for a total of 12 years.

Working for different companies provided Daniel with diverse perspectives. “Each new role challenged me to adapt, learn,

and grow, helping me develop a versatile skill set that I can apply in various situations,” he said. Daniel appreciates the experience and exposure he received through CWSP, which were vital for his ability to advance in his career.

“My strong work ethic has been a driving force behind my success, allowing me to consistently achieve my goals and make significant progress as a realtor,” he said. “It has not only enabled me to excel in my professional endeavors, but also instilled a sense of discipline and determination that has positively impacted various aspects

of my life.”

A Night of Honor Access to Success

On October 23rd, we kicked off the start of our 20th Anniversary festivities by celebrating the people and partnerships that help create the Access to Success. We honored Capital Group and the College of the Holy Cross for their commitment to providing opportunities for our students, a commitment which was personified by our two graduate speakers.

Our alumni speakers, Joelis Paula '19, UPenn '23 and Edwin Rivera '20, Holy Cross '24 spoke about the opportunities that Cristo Rey provided them - from their work study jobs at Capital Group which have led to full-time positions there, to the college readiness which helped prepare them for the coursework they would need to be successful in their selective colleges, at their jobs, and beyond. Check out a snippet of Edwin Rivera's speech from the night!

Edwin Rivera '20

"The culture and the people at Holy Cross are really amazing. My first year was impacted greatly by the pandemic, but Holy Cross worked hard to embrace all its students and make them feel at home. I see what they do for incoming freshmen now – a bunch of whom are Cristo Rey New York graduates – and I am impressed by the actions they take to help students adapt. I can’t imagine myself on another college campus around another group of people..."

"I am proud to announce that I have accepted a full-time job at Capital Group next year and I will be joining the Irvine campus as a technology engineer. That would not have been possible without the education I have received at Holy Cross, and I couldn’t have had either opportunity without the access to them that Cristo Rey provided me. Thank you to my mom and dad who are here tonight for choosing that little school in East Harlem."
