presidents message

Greetings FAB Members,

Another summer comes to a close; it seems like these summer months race by faster every year. Wherever you found yourself these past few months – I hope you collected some fond memories and experiences with friends and family.

It’s time to kick-off a new FAB season, I am excited about all the plans that are underway for FAB 2022/2023. FAB Committees were busy during the summer months planning for the new season: Elissa Mogilefsky and the Membership Committee are planning Friendraiser events, Mary Riedel and the Program Committee has developed a full year of events and programs, Josh Lida and the Corporate Partners Committee are working to expand our outreach to Broward businesses and Mike Hartstein and Eleanore Levy have started planning for the 2024 Grants cycle. I want to thank everyone for their dedication and good work as we prepare all the FAB activities for the 20th year.

In June, the Board approved recommendations made by the Special Task Force for FAB Sustainability. The two recommendations include promoting the FAB Legacy Planned Giving Program and to establish a FAB 20th Anniversary Campaign which would amplify FAB’s impact in the arts community of Broward. More details will be provided shortly, it will be quite exciting so get ready to be ignited!

The FAB Scene is produced by Kat Sierra and the Communications Committee, led by Carolyn Lee. This edition provides current updates on the many FAB activities. Feedback and suggestions are always welcomed.

Thank you – for your support!

membership news

Join the FAB 2022-2023 Membership Drive

FAB members spent their summer around the world spreading the good word about FAB! Elissa Mogilefsky, Membership Committee Chair, and FAB member, Judy Zucker, spent their summers together enjoying the sites in beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. Last season, FAB's membership drives introduced us to new friends, and arts lovers. As dedicated volunteers you all played a vital role in expanding our family.

As we kick off FAB's 20th Anniversary we have another opportunity to “Spread the Word” and really grow our family and increase the impact FAB makes in the arts community. Let's join together in celebrating this milestone!

The Program Committee has planned an exciting year of member events. It's the perfect time to expose a friend to a thriving arts world through FAB. As dedicated Arts Ambassadors, one way you can "Spread the Word" is by bringing a potential member(s) to a FAB-TASTIC Friendraiser held especially for prospective members. The first Friendraiser will be hosted at the home of Fred and Jessica Olefson, on Tuesday, September 20, 5:30-7:30pm. If you have questions email Kat Sierra, fundingartsbroward@gmail.com

WHEN YOU PLAY AN ACTIVE ROLE TO “SPREAD THE WORD” YOU CAN

PARTICIPATE IN A SPECIAL “FAB THANK YOU”

All FAB members who have a prospective guest join by February 28, 2023, will receive a limited-edition FAB Cap

fab fun events

The Arts is no longer a charity it's an investment

A message from Program Chair, Mary Riedel

Over the summer months the Program Committee was hard at work coordinating a diverse, dynamic, and most importantly, FUN FAB Events calendar. This year, in honor of FAB's 20th year of grant funding we focused on spotlighting our super talented grantees. In addition to FAB's signature events, we have added more member exclusive grantee programs. Mark your calendars and join us at The Parker for a grantee performance, The NSU Art Museum for our annual Black and White event, The Art Bunker in West Palm for a private exhibit tour, and for a fabulous lunch and matinee at the Broward Center.

Members, look out for your FAB Fun Event bookmark in the mail this month. I look forward to reuniting with you at the 20th Anniversary Celebration on October 18th at the Broward Center.

board spotlight

FAB is proud to spotlight Board member Dr. Deborah Floyd!

Deb is a Professor of Higher Education Leadership at Florida Atlantic University where she instructs graduate students. Deb is also a proud supporter of the arts, especially space theatre, dance and music. According to Deb, the arts afford her the opportunity to appreciate diverse voices and perspectives through stories and experiences. She loves to escape in a safe space while experiencing the emotion and energy of the arts.

A FAB member since 2020, Deb was initially invited to one of our socials by a friend who thought she’d enjoy meeting like-minded people who enjoy culture and have a desire to make a difference in our community. She felt welcomed and included by FAB members and also felt confident her membership dues were allocated to organizations with diverse missions and programs.

As a busy professional, Deb always finds time to support FAB initiatives and programming. “I give to the arts because the arts have given me so much…and continue to give,” she said. “I can see that my gifts of money and time are being gratefully received and appreciated.” We thank Deb for her support and commitment to FAB. Deb joined the Board of Directors in May 2022.

Confrontation: Keith Haring and Pierre Alechinsky will draw major attention in celebrating one of the most beloved figures of 20th-century American art, while simultaneously providing a means of access to one of the legends of the European avant-garde. This exhibition differentiates itself from past iterations of Haring presentations through its emphasis on showing the artist’s place within a broader historical lineage that extends to artists beyond American borders. In connecting Haring to Alechinsky and CoBrA, this presentation emphasizes the under-recognized legacy of this key experimental movement, one that eroded artistic and social barriers by bringing work into the streets and adapting non-traditional creative sources including children’s art and pre-historic visual culture in order to instigate social change.
