At Los Angeles Leadership Academy (LALA) High School, a commitment to holistic education goes beyond textbooks and classrooms. The school fosters an environment that not only imparts academic knowledge but also equips students with the tools they need for life beyond the school gates. Jesus Gonzalez, PESA’s Assistant Director of Youth Services, has been actively supporting this holistic approach by spearheading the Senior Seminar Course.
This semester, the course covered essential life skills, including creating a resume, understanding budgets, setting boundaries, fostering a growth mindset and practicing mock interviews. These workshops are tailored to ensure seniors are well prepared for their life after high school.
Rachel, a senior at LALA and an active participant of the course says, “The mock interviews provided by PESA were very helpful in preparing us for real interviews and allowing us to practice answering common questions and dressing appropriately.” PESA places a high value on self-empowerment and advocacy, fostering an environment where program participants are motivated to become advocates themselves and where they strive towards a future filled with prosperity. She adds, “These interviews in particular aid in building confidence, improving communication skills, and identifying areas we can improve on.”
LALA’s Principal, Elsa Ochoa, also highlights the skills students have learned during the Senior Seminar sharing, "In this leadership role, Gonzalez has created engaging lessons for students to explore topics such as financial literacy, budgeting, APA format writing, and goal-setting. He has guided our students through building their resumes and participating in mock interviews. As the Principal, I am grateful for the time, energy, care, and resources PESA has poured into LALA High School."
PESA is proud to shape well-rounded students ready to take on the challenges of the future and appreciates LALA’s commitment to holistic education that extends beyond textbooks.
