Anniversaries and Blessings
On Today is my mom and dad’s wedding anniversary. They would have been celebrating 52 years of marriage. My dad has repeatedly told me he always thought they would sail past 60 years, but alas this is not the case. Instead, he gets to celebrate his anniversary with me. We will go visit my mom spot at the cemetery, bring flowers, and walk around and then we will eat dinner and share stories. It will be okay. But not as any of us envisioned it. So today instead, I shared with him this blessing by author and artist Jan Richardson, a woman who experienced the unexpected death of her husband too and writes of her own grief and loss.
Blessing for an Anniversary Date
I am imagining
you have learned by now
that time will never move
quite straight for you again—
no more forward only,
if ever it traveled that way.
Now it will be
the bend and
the turn of it,
the curve and
the cradling of it,
the unfurling,
unfolding,
unwinding of it
as it arcs you around
in this spiral
of seasons,
as it draws you around
in this circle
of days.
Like today,
for instance—
this day that marks
a year since last
you passed by
this gate,
this threshold,
this door
that lives with such
vividness in your
memory,
opening onto the
chamber of your heart
where what this day once held
keeps happening.
Let yourself listen
for the liturgy
that persists here,
for the life you shared
that still opens out
along secret paths.
Let yourself
linger again
at the door
of this day.
Let yourself
give yourself into
its hours with
exquisite kindness
and wondrous care.
Light the candles
in celebration
of what remains,
in the ceremony
of what abides
in the shelter
of these hours,
in the mystery
of this day.

Children’s Ministry Movie Night for ages 3 years old through 5th grade is back! Please join us for this free and fun night at the movies! All children must be accompanied by a parent or other adult.

Family Table "Take-Out" Meal
Sunday, July 17th
12:30pm-1:30pm
Grace will be serving another Family Table “take-out” meal on Sunday, July 17th. Family Table is held on the 3rd Sunday of each month and the sign-up sheet is available well in advance. If you are looking for a fun opportunity to serve with other Grace members while sharing food with our neighbors, please contact Lynda Wilde lrwilde@comcast.net or 612-418-6444. SPEND SOME TIME IN STILLWATER TOGETHER!
Wednesday, August 17th
Join us as we spend a leisurely day in Stillwater on the banks of the mighty St. Croix. We have no specific agenda, except we will leave the church parking lot at 9:30am to carpool. You choose how to spend the day...trolley tour, lunch, shopping, ice cream, watching life go by on the river...you decide what YOU want to do! Trolley rides are at 11:00am, 2:00pm and 3:00pm for $13.00 senior price; the 11:00am may be the best time to go as a group if you are interested in doing so. If you should choose not to carpool, meet at the Trolley area at 10:30am, but please still RSVP.
