Good Shepherd Summer Club
Mini Mission Project Update
|
THANK YOU, First Pres Family for your continued support of our Children’s Ministry Good Shepherd Summer Club. We are excited to announce that thanks to you and your generous donations, we have completed our Big Kid Backpack mini mission project! We raised $800 to go towards the purchasing of 20 durable bookbags for our High School students who live in the Bethel neighborhood. Thank you again church family!
The start of school may be right around the corner, but the summer is not over yet. We have one more mini mission project. Next up is our Coloring Book Collection! Lay Park is hosting a Back to School event for our Bethel Buddies and they have asked if we could help provide coloring books that will be included in a Back to School surprise for the neighborhood children. Please pick up a coloring book or two (for both girls and boys) and drop them off in our Good Shepherd Summer donation box next to the church receptionist’s front desk or in the atrium. Our Coloring Book Collection will run from Sunday, July 17 through Sunday, July 31. Thank you again for your support of our First Pres Children as they continue to share God’s love around the neighborhood this summer.
- Natalie Bishop, Director of Children’s Ministry

Matthew 25 Summer Book Study
|
Our next Matthew 25 Book Study will be on July 31st discussing Nickel and Dimed by Barbara Ehrenreich. Please RSVP here.
The image is a word cloud created from our June book study. The words in CAPS are one-word reflections on the book. The words in cursive are how the book made us feel. Thank you to Sharon Logan for channeling her inner Lit teacher to lead our conversation.

The Nominations and Elections Committee is in the process of developing a slate of names to recommend to the congregation for the formation of an Associate Pastor Nominating Committee. If there are persons whom you believe are well suited to serve in this way, please submit their names to any member of the Nominations and Elections Committee or to the church office at your earliest convenience. The members of the Nominations and Elections Committee are Beverly Phares (chair), Keith Oelke (vice-chair), Kathy Bangle, Angela Hunt, and Richard Lane. By virtue of his office as pastor, Dr. Baer serves the committee ex-officio and without vote.

We like to think of summer as being a relaxing, enjoyable time. But hurts, struggles, crises, and problems don’t take a vacation. Many times our difficulties seem even worse during the summer because everyone else seems to be enjoying life while you are feeling down. If you are experiencing a difficult time -- emotionally, spiritually, or relationally -- you don’t have to suffer alone. First Presbyterian Stephen Ministers are trained caregivers, ready to listen, care for and encourage you, pray with and for you, and provide one-to-one Christian care to help you through whatever it is that you are facing. Stephen Ministers meet weekly with their care receivers. The caring relationship lasts for as long as the person needs care. Men are matched with male Stephen Ministers, and women are matched with female Stephen Ministers.
It’s free. It’s confidential. And it will make a difference in your life!
To find out more about Stephen Ministry for you or someone you know, talk with one of our Stephen Ministry Leaders:
