Message from Mike: How is your cyber journey going this year?
Picture your home or apartment. Then, think back to the last time you inspected it for wear-and-tear damage, like the small holes and cracks that seem manageable until critters, drafts, or rain find their way inside.

Cybersecurity is a little bit like that. There are big gaps, of course, and then the small ones we seldom think about – such as cyber risks in third-party relationships and the level of protection we give to our cloud-based or other digital systems. Many clients are surprised by what risks are lurking in their environment.

This isn't meant to incite stress, but it is an invitation to prepare. When was the last time you had your “cyber house” examined?

And if it’s been a while, what are you waiting for?

The threat landscape has changed – and it helps to know the capacity of the tools we use in our everyday work to stay safe. Our own Mike Skinner was joined by Augmentt Head of Partner Success Stephan Tomecko for this latest webinar session, where they discussed Microsoft 365’s security suite.

VoIP: Our newest service addition
Voice over Internet Protocol support (VoIP) is the latest addition to Skinner Technology Group’s service offerings. VoIP enables customers to make telephone calls over a broadband connection, as an alternative to a traditional phone line. Calls are both delivered and received over broadband, rather than being tied to a specific physical location. Customers often embrace this solution because of the lower costs associated with both switching to and maintaining a VoIP service.

Get in touch with us to learn more about whether VoIP is the right fit for your business.
Insight: Talking about cybersecurity with contractors
You might not think about it much, but third-party contractors come with cybersecurity concerns, too. Contractors may work on-site to perform specific roles within your company. This includes individuals hired through staffing agencies or temp services. Another type of contractor might be on-site to perform a specific job.

As a business owner, use your judgment to determine how central a role cybersecurity discussions need to play in your relationship. If you haven’t considered this before, a cybersecurity expert can help you get started.
DeSoto County News: Building a firewall up against hackers
Our own Mike Skinner is an author! Along with Chris Wiser, the founder and chief executive officer of 7 Figure MSP™, he has written The Small Business Owner's Guide to Protecting Your Business From Hackers.

“We wanted to put together an easy guide for small business owners because a lot of what’s out there related to cyber security is too technical, too complicated, and honestly, small business owners don’t have the time to figure out what all the ‘tech jargon’ means,” Skinner said. “We really just wanted to help small businesses with their cyber security.”
