Congratulations

Celebrating the Success of Project RED throughout the VA

Brian Jack, MD, professor and former chair of family medicine, received a token of appreciation from the VA Palo Alto Health Care System to celebrate more than a decade of success of Project RED (Re-Engineered Discharge), a standardized hospital-based discharge program designed to promote patient safety and reduce re-hospitalization rates.

Making the presentation virtually was VA Palo Alto Deputy Associate Director for Patient Care Services/Deputy Nurse Executive David Renfro while BUMC Provost and Chobanian & Avedisian Dean Karen Antman, MD, presented Jack with the crystal sphere. Project RED was developed by Jack and his research team in 2005 and is now used nationally and internationally. In the U.S., Project RED has been instituted in every state and at 14 VA medical centers across the country.

The award reads, “In celebrating a decade of this initiative, we want to thank you for supporting strategies of RED nationally and internationally, with presentations, as leaders for Nursing globally. Thank you for all the contributions you made in creating success for Project RED throughout the VA.”
