Spotlight on our Anniversary Colors!

The Iniko Shawl, designed by our own Kris Gregson, was originally worked up in a DK weight yarn that is no longer available, so we've re-imagined it in Fino, a fingering weight yarn from Manos del Uruguay. (Shawls are simple to change stitch gauge).

We combined our 45th anniversary color Cuarenta y Cinco with a skein of Malachite for this celebration of the California Condor.

We still have some limited quantities of our 40th anniversary color Cuarenta. Buy the yarn separately or make this fun to knit shawl!

Dream in Color - Hand Dyed & Cashmere

We love this line of hand dyed yarn. The Colorways created by Dream in Color are vibrant and alive. The bases we stock all contain some cashmere, so they're as soft and luxurious as you can imagine. Available in Fingering, DK, and Worsted weights in many beautiful colors.

Dream in Color recently came out with a new fingering weight yarn called lamb & goat, which is a blend of New Zealand wool and Cashmere. It comes in a variety of beautiful hand-dyed colors. It comes in 50 gram skeins making it perfect for color work garments and shawls.

The time has come for the next chapter in our lives. We’re looking for the next owner of the Ball & Skein. Yes, the shop is for sale.

Don't expect huge changes right away. And yes, new yarn is still coming in. We're still here and committed to providing the same quality of service as always.

In 2009 we took a big chance and moved from our beloved neighborhood just outside Boston to run a yarn shop in a small town on the coast of California. It’s been an amazing experience, full of memories we will treasure for the rest of our lives.

We’re grateful for each and every one of you that have supported the shop for all these years and we hope the legacy of the Ball & Skein continues for many years to come. It’s been a great pleasure to be a part of one of the oldest, and we feel, most loved shops in the country.

We've been amazed at the interest we've received already! But remember, even if someone said "Yes" today we expect this process will take some time, so fear not, we're still here to serve you!
