Self Assessment Survey Requirements

What employment information should Administrator/Director/Owners review before submitting the Self-Assessment Survey to ensure credit will be awarded?

Before submitting the Self-Assessment Survey, it’s important to review all information in the Employees Tab in the Organization Profile in MiRegistry. Incorrect employment information could result in Great Start to Quality not being able to award credit for Professional Development and Qualification indicators. Before submitting the

Self-Assessment Survey:

  • Review the Employees Tabto see that all staff have connected to the Organization Profile.
  • Verify all staff have a current MiRegistry Career Pathway Level.
  • Ensure all staff have connected to the Organization Profile with the correct position title. Please note that if the individual has more than one role (e.g., Director and Lead Teacher) each role must be added separately.

Dual Positions in MiRegistry

Our program director is also a teacher in a classroom. Do they need to have two positions listed in the Employees Tab?

Centers whose Administrator/Director also fills the role of a Lead/Assistant teacher must have two employment records in their individual profile for Great Start to Quality requirements, and to better reflect the multiple roles educators take on in our workforce. Staff with multiple roles must also have:

1. One employment record as the Administrator/Program Director/School-age Site Supervisor.

2. One employment record as a Lead Caregiver/Teacher/School-age Staff.

Family Child Cares whose Administrator/Director/Owner/Operator also fills the role of lead teacher can use the role of Owner/Operator for Great Start to Quality. They need either one employment record as the Owner/Operator, or one employment record as the Administrator/Program Director/Schoolage Site Supervisor and one employment record as a Lead Caregiver/Teacher/Schoolage Staff.

When a program with a dual role of Administrator/Director goes through validation and does not have "Administrator/Director" also listed as a "Lead/Assistant Teacher", the program will not be able to earn credit for that specific lead teacher's qualifications in the Self-Assessment Survey.

How to Search for Great Start to Quality Qualified Trainings

ECIC created a short video on how to search for Great Start to Quality qualified trainings in MiRegistry. The recording can be found here and on the Great Start to Quality website Professional Development and Self-Assessment Survey pages.

Practice Environment Rating Scale (ERS) Observations

As you may have heard, the ERS suite of observation tools will be options for most programs when the GSQ Revisions launch in February. Find out more about ITERS-3, ECCERS-3, and FCCERS-3 here.

The Assessment Team will be traveling throughout the state to conduct ERS reliability observations this fall. These practice observations will not affect your current star rating or the quality levels in the new model. This is simply a time to have an assessor come in and practice observing using the appropriate ERS tool in your setting while they gain reliability and experience using the tool. We are in need of home-based providers, as well as, Infant, Toddler, and Preschool classrooms to observe for three hours. Your program will get feedback from the observation which can be used to improve quality.

Email assessment@ecic4kids.org if you are interested. While we cannot guarantee your program is selected for a practice ERS observation, we do our best to observe many different program types and age ranges in various locations in the state and would love to hear from you!

As always, if you have any questions regarding On-Site Observation, reach out to the Assessment Team at assessment@ecic4kids.org

Revised Quality Indicator Feedback

The Quality Indicators for the revised Great Start to Quality model launching in February 2023 were recently released. We want to hear your feedback! While the indicators and language are solidified, we do want to learn how to better support understanding of the indicators, how programs can meet the intent and provide evidence of high-quality practices. Please take just a few moments to share your feedback so we can create additional guidance to support you and your staff.
