Vaccine Decision-Making Tool

The new monovalent COVID-19 vaccines authorized by the FDA last week and recommended by the CDC for all people aged 5 and over are now available. This week, the National Adult and Influenza Immunization Summit released a new resource: Fall 2023 Respiratory Season Vaccination Decision Making for People 60 and Over that provides vaccine coadministration strategies based on various scenarios.

Communicating the Value of Influenza Vaccination

Thanks to COVID-19 mitigation strategies, the influenza season during 2020-2021 and 2021-2022 were milder than usual. However, last year saw influenza returning to pre-pandemic levels. Given this, it is more important than ever that individuals receive an influenza vaccine this year. The Association of Immunization Managers recently released "Communicating the Benefits of Influenza Vaccination," a one-page flyer to support providers in having persuasive conversations about influenza immunization.

COVID-19 ED Visits and Hospitalizations Increase

The greatest number of COVID-19 cases continue to be seen in adults 75 years and older.

Long-term care facilities are seeing an increase in confirmed COVID-19 cases, reporting 9.3/1000 cases for the week ending September 10.

Vaccination remains a vital tool to protect public health. One dose of the updated vaccine is required for individuals to be considered up to date.
