Lane Closures

Sept. 4-11

Motorists can expect alternating, single-lane closures on I-64 from 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. at the following locations:

  • I-64 west between Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290) and Greenbrier Parkway (exit 289), Sept. 6-10
  • I-64 west between I-464 (exit 291) and Battlefield Boulevard (exit 290), Sept. 6-7
  • I-64 east between Shell Road (overpass) and George Washington Highway (exit 296), Sept. 6-9
  • I-64 east near mile marker 299, Sept. 6-9
  • I-64 west between Shell Road (overpass) and I-464 (exit 291), Sept 8

Overnight closure of collector-distributor lanes on I-64 west, Sept. 9-10, with detour for I-64 west to Battlefield Boulevard south


The outside collector-distributor (CD) lanes on I-64 west near Battlefield Boulevard will be closed Sept. 9-10 from 11 p.m. to 4 a.m. Motorists traveling on I-64 west can exit to Battlefield Boulevard south (exit 290) by using the following detour:


  • Take exit 289B to Greenbrier Parkway
  • Use on-ramp to I-64 east
  • Take exit 290B to Battlefield Boulevard south

Overnight closure of Great Bridge Boulevard at the I-64 overpass, Sept. 7-8


Great Bridge Boulevard between Tennyson Street and the I-64 west off-ramp (exit 292) will be closed to all traffic Sept. 7-8 from 9 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow the detour below. Detour information will also be designated with signage along the roadway.


GREAT BRIDGE BOULEVARD DETOUR


Traveling south on Great Bridge Boulevard:

  • Right on Booker Street
  • Left on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • Left on Dominion Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Boulevard


Traveling north on Great Bridge Boulevard:

  • Left on Dominion Boulevard
  • Right on Bainbridge Boulevard
  • End detour and turn left/right on Great Bridge Boulevard

Overnight ramp closure on I-64 west to Great Bridge Boulevard (exit 292), Sept. 7-8



Motorists traveling on I-64 west toward Virginia Beach should use the following detour:


  • Exit 291A to I-464 north
  • Exit 1 to I-64 east
  • Exit 291B to Route 168 south
  • Right exit to Great Bridge Boulevard

Overnight ramp closure of Military Highway to I-64 west, Sept. 6-10


The on-ramp to I-64 west from Military Highway will be closed nightly from 9 p.m. to 4 a.m., beginning as early as Sept. 6-10. Motorists traveling on Military Highway to I-64 west should follow the detour below:.


Southbound Military Highway


  • Continue on Military Highway
  • Turn left to stay on Military Highway
  • Turn right onto the I-64 east /I-264 ramp (in front of Frank’s Truck Stop/Shell Station)
  • Keep right to I-64 west toward Virginia Beach


Northbound Military Highway


  • Continue on Military Highway
  • Turn right on George Washington Highway
  • Keep right to I-64 west on-ramp toward Virginia Beach

Overnight ramp closure on I-64 west to Military Highway (exit 297), Sept. 6-9


Motorists should be prepared for a full closure of the off-ramp from I-64 west to Military Highway (exit 297) Sept. 6-9 beginning as early as 9 p.m. to 4 a.m.

Overnight ramp closure on I-464 south to I-64 east (exit 1B), Sept. 6-7


The exit ramp from I-464 south to I-64 east (exit 1B) will be closed on Sept. 6 (contingency date: Sept. 7) from midnight to 4 a.m.


Motorists should follow detour signs utilizing exit 1A to I-64 west and follow the cloverleaf to access I-64 east.

Overnight ramp closure on I-64 east to George Washington Highway south (exit 296), Sept. 10-11


The exit ramp from I-64 east to George Washington Highway south (exit 296) will be closed on Sept. 10 from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. and Sept. 11 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow detour signs using exit 297 to Military Highway and take a right on George Washington Highway. 

Overnight on-ramp closure on George Washington Highway north to I-64 east, Sept. 10-11


The on-ramp from George Washington Highway north to I-64 east will be closed on Sept. 10 from 8 p.m. to 9 a.m. and Sept. 11 from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m.


Motorists should follow detour signs continuing on George Washington Highway to Military Highway, using the Military Highway on-ramp to I-64 east. 

All construction schedules are pending, due to weather or unforeseen circumstances. Changes to the schedule will be updated on the project website traffic alerts page.
