Principal's Letter

Hello Grant Families,

Spring is here! We are so glad to have seen some sunshine this week. Kids and teachers enjoyed getting outside to play and learn!

As we plan for next year, we are working hard to get all new students and incoming kindergarteners registered for the 2025-2026 school year! We need your help, if you have an incoming kindergarten student, please work with our office staff to get them registered. This is very important as we plan for staffing, grade level shifts, supply orders and more. It is also very important that we have everyone's updated address and phone numbers. Please be sure to provide our office staff with any changes to this information.

Finally, as we leave for spring break next week, please visit our lost and found. Any unclaimed items will be donated on Friday, April 4th.

Extra Curricular Activities

Grant offers many extra curricular activities for students to be involved in. There is an activity bus in the afternoons for students who are eligible to ride the bus and have registered to ride.

Mondays:

Drummers & Dancers (for 3rd-5th grades, from 3:00-4:15)

Tuesdays:

Choir (for 3rd-5th grades, from 3:00-4:15, starting April 15)
SYSA Volleyball (for 4th-6th grades, from 7:15-8:30pm, starting April 14)

Wednesdays:

Minecraft Club (for 3rd-5th grades, from 3:00-4:00, last day April 2)
Spring Running Club (for K-5 grades, from 7:30-8:00, starting April 16)
Art Club (for 3rd-5th grades, from 3:00-4:00, starting April 16)
Thursdays:
Multicultural Club (for 3rd-5th grades, every other Thursday from 3:00-4:00)
Indigenous Club (for American Indian or Alaska Native students, twice a month, from 3:00-4:00)

Fridays:

Spring Running Club (for K-5 grades, from 7:30-8:00)

2025-2026 Registration Now Open

Kindergarten and new student registration is now open for next year! Please register online or come by the office. The following is a list of paperwork to upload or bring in to the office to complete the registration process:

Birth certificate (students must be 5 years old on or before August 31)
Medically verified immunizations records
Proof of residency (this can be a utility or phone bill)

Registering now helps in preparing for classrooms next year. Please help us in our planning efforts and register your child as soon as possible. Please encourage your friends and neighbors to register their child too!

Reading Challenge

Thank you to all who participated in the Silverwood Read 2 Ride program! If you haven't turned in your reading log, we can accept it on Monday, March 31, no later.

Grant is still having their monthly reading challenges also. If your student meets their reading goal, they will earn a FREE Pizza Hut pizza!

Interested in Volunteering?

If you are interested in volunteering for a field trip or helping a teacher in the classroom, you must fill out an online application and be approved as a volunteer. The volunteer application is NOT mobile friendly. Please complete the application on a desktop device. It can take up to a week for an application to be approved. (If you've previously filled out a paper volunteer application, you'll need to update digitally after the end of this year.)

Attendance Line

If your student is going to be absent from school or arriving late, please call the attendance line to report the absence or tardy. Please remember to include your student's name and the reason for their absence. The phone number is 509-354-2818.

SPS HEART Program

If you or your family has had a loss of housing, remember that you may be eligible for the HEART program’s support and services. We work to provide educational stability for students that are staying in temporary or transitional living situations. What's for Breakfast and Lunch?

Breakfast and lunch menus are always available online. All students eat free thanks to the Community Eligibility Provision Program. Students can purchase an extra entree, called a "super" for $2.00.

T.E.A.M. Grant Updates

T.E.A.M. Grant is the parent-teacher group for Grant Elementary. We support the students and staff through various requests presented to the group. The next T.E.A.M. Grant meeting is Tuesday, April 1, at 3:30 in the library. We would love to have you join us! Free childcare is available.

Husky Highlights

5th Grade has been enjoying Science in Action with Gonzaga University students. They recently started a unit on Eastern Washington Ecosystems and have been learning about Energy Flow and Food Webs.

We had some great socks at Grant for World Down Syndrome Day!

Mr. Cooley's classroom encourages everyone to Bee Amazing!

Mrs. Cornmesser's class has been rehearsing for a readers theater The Little Red Hen. They had a lot of fun!

We had a great turnout for Donuts with Grownups. Thank you, T.E.A.M. Grant, for this fun time!
