Dear Residents -

On Monday, December 18, 2023, at 5 pm, there will be a Special Town Board meeting to consider the garbage haulers’ request for an increase in the residential rate of garbage pickup from $33.50 to $38.10 per month commencing on January 1, 2024. The request is based upon the rising costs of “tipping fees” – the amount the carters pay to dump the garbage they collect. Although a presentation was made at last week’s Town Board meeting, additional documentation has been requested to substantiate the amount of the increase. This meeting will be open to the public and in a new Town Hall meeting room.

Boy, the holidays are suddenly in full swing. On Monday and Tuesday, I attended the Menorah lighting ceremonies in Nyack and Pearl River. Thanks to Rabbi Ehrenreich for inviting me and allowing me to say a few words. With music and refreshments (and a firetruck gelt drop in Nyack), it was two wonderful evenings of celebration!

And tonight at 7 pm, in Braunsdorf Park, it is the Pearl River Rotary Club’s Share Christmas and the Holidays, where Santa and Mrs. Claus will arrive on a float. As a result, South Main Street will be closed at 5:30 pm and will re-open around 9:30 pm. Please click here for the route. It is expected to be a fun evening of caroling, hot chocolate, and visits from Santa and his friends. And if you can, please bring an unwrapped toy for a child in need.

Tomorrow, the Blauvelt Ladies Auxiliary is having a Holiday Party at the Blauvelt Fire House from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm and, later that day, the Tappan Fire House will hold their Annual Drive-Thru Holiday Celebration. It will start at 4:30 pm at the William O. Schaefer Elementary School on Lester Drive in Tappan.

Then, you can end the weekend with a visit to the Orangetown Museum’s Holiday Open House, from 1 pm to 4 pm, at the Salyer House on Blue Hill Road in Pearl River. There will be free photos with Santa, children’s crafts and snacks.

With so much to do this weekend, enjoy and make great memories!

Regards,

Teresa M. Kenny

This past Sunday, hundreds showed up to run the Orangetown Parks and Recreation annual Santa Claus 5k this past Sunday.
