Dear CHT Member,

Fortunately taking selfies is not something I get paid to do most of the time at CHT, but I had fun taking the one featured above with many of the 300 of you who attended this year’s Annual Meeting and Dinner! It is exhilarating to hear from members, celebrate contributions of those going above and beyond in our communities, and share a meal together. I was inspired by our awardees, and by the nominations and resident questions that we received during the Annual Meeting.

There are few opportunities next week to speak directly to lawmakers about how important investing in housing is this legislative season. Thursday, Feb 16th there will be a public hearing at 5:00pm to solicit input from Vermonters on affordable housing and related issues. Your voice can make a difference – and you can join by Zoom or in person! Then on Friday, Feb 17th it's our annual Legislative Day at the State House, where you can speak with lawmakers outside of committee hearings. If you can join us, please register.

Elmwood Community Shelter is open and CHT staff and guests will be moving in over the next few weeks. Recent extreme cold temperatures underscore the need for safe shelter options like this which also provides specialized support services to people who may have challenges with accessing traditional shelters. If interested, there are ways you can help

Stay warm...and know the days are getting longer!

Elmwood Community Shelter Opens
This week marks the opening of Elmwood Community Shelter in Burlington. This new shelter will create a welcoming environment, providing specialized services to 35 community members experiencing homelessness.

Join CHT and advocates from around the state in sending the message to lawmakers that we value affordable housing for all. There are two ways to help. Register for a public hearing on Thursday, February 16th at 5:00pm or join us in Montpelier on Friday, February 17th.
CHT Honors Community Leaders
At Champlain Housing Trust's Annual Meeting and Dinner we include an awards ceremony to bestow appreciation to community members who have gone above and beyond. For us, these awards also highlight the the values CHT would like to mirror. Recognizing others creates a model for bringing out our best intentions and efforts. These award recipients are bringing about change reflective of the values that led to our founding: community, equity, inclusion. This year's honorees are Laurie Grant (pictured), the City of Winooski, and Jennifer Hollar.
