A message from Pastor Isaac Dusenbury
|
|
Sharing is caring, right? It’s important to share. Christians are particularly good at sharing. Because we imitate a generous Lord, it means we choose to give of ourselves more often than not. But sharing is not just about sharing stuff. We’re also called to share ourselves. It’s great that we know how to donate food or clothing or even blood at a blood drive, but God also wants us to share ourselves with others in a meaningful way.
Paul the Apostle once wrote a letter to the church in Thessalonica. “So deeply do we care for you,” he wrote, “that we are determined to share with you not only the gospel of God but also our own selves because you have become very dear to us.” Paul understood that ministry and evangelism was not just about proclaiming the gospel but living the gospel as well.
Jesus knew how to be hospitable. He knew how to make personal connections and build relationships. He knew the importance of community and referred to his followers as brothers, sisters, and friends. The sincerity and authenticity of his ministry left dramatic impressions on others. Paul took all of this to heart in practicing his own ministry. His letters reveal how he tried to teach these important lessons to the young churches of his day.
How do you share yourself with others in faithful ways? Reflect on this question over the next few days. I’m reading a book right now called The Externally Focused Church by Rick Rusaw and Eric Swanson. The authors ask provocative questions: “If your church vanished, would your community weep? Would anyone notice? Would anyone care?” Well, what about you? What would happen if you suddenly vanished from our church? Would our community weep? Would anyone notice? Would anyone care?
It’s easy to fly under the radar if you’re not sharing and giving of yourself in meaningful ways. The Christian movement would not have lasted long if its adherents were selfish, individualistic, private, and/or reclusive from the surrounding communities. So join us this Sunday as we begin a new conversation about what faithful sharing looks like both collectively and individually as Christians. I look forward to sharing my testimony soon; maybe you’ll share yours as well.
Blessings,
|

God of truth, your very self finds its unity in the joy of love, a love in which you have called us all to share. In your mercy, draw all those who follow you into that harmony for which you long, that treasuring our rich diversity of gifts and traditions, and sharing them with openness and generosity, we may offer to you in unity that one true sacrifice by which the world is reconciled with heaven and all creation is made new, in Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Bereavement Teams
What happens after the funeral?
|
Loss and grief are common to all families. One of the important services we offer to congregation members is a reception for family and friends after a funeral or memorial service. We provide light refreshments and beverages so that the family members may gather, greet guests, and laugh or cry together. We pray that they feel the love and support of our congregation and that they will share some time in remembrance together. We currently have two amazing teams, and would like to add a third or even fourth team to this ministry.
If you might be interested in joining (or possibly leading) a bereavement team, contact Wendy Zulanch in the Family Life Center ([email protected], 843.357.5178). We will have you work with our existing teams to learn the process. Any food items that you may purchase are reimbursed by the church, so there is no out-of-pocket expense to you. Please prayerfully consider joining this vital ministry!

Prayers and Concerns
Almighty God, shield of the oppressed, hear us as we pray for the friendless and the lonely, the tempted and the unbelieving. Be merciful to those who suffer, in body and mind, to those who are in danger or distress, and who have suffered loss. Let your love surround the infirm and the aged. Be especially near to those who are passing through the valley of death. May they find eternal rest, and light at evening time.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
